We continued our 2021 NBA Draft coverage by inviting our friend Nathaniel Miller, an excellent draft analyst with an encyclopedic memory when it comes to prospects and their stats, to help us run through a ton of options for the Sacramento Kings with their 2nd round pick.
In this episode we covered:
- What positions of strength are there in this draft class, and what archetypes should the Kings look for at 39?
- Which prospects could fall to the early 2nd round?
- A handful of wings likely to be available
- Why we’d all love to see the Kings double up on wings and forwards at both pick 9 and 39
- Nate’s thoughts on the candidates for pick 9
Players we discussed in this pod included Moses Moody, Jalen Johnson, Josh Giddey, Franz Wagner, Corey Kispert, Josh Christopher, Roko Prkacin, Neemias Queta, JT Thor, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Kessler Edwards, Herbert Jones, Vrenz Bleijenbergh, and more.
Make sure to follow Nate on Twitter at @journalistnate for more excellent draft takes, and let us know in the comments below who you want the Kings to take at pick 39!
There are going to be some interesting prospects at #39, particularly with 3&D forwards. I think Brown, Murphy III, Thor, Jones, Edwards, Todd and Roko Prkacin.
Other players in that range I’m confident will become solid role players include Deuce McBride, Na’Shon Hyland, Day’ron Sharpe, Ayo Dosunmu, and Daishen Nix. None of these players really fit the Kings needs, but I think they’ll be nice players nonetheless.
Overall, I think #39 will yield a contributor. Jones, Edwards, and Murphy III in particular would fit very nicely, but I think BPA would be Todd or Prkacin.
JW1395- I think Murphy, Springer, Sharpe, Primo, Hyland and Thor gone in first round.
Then Prkacin, Dosunmu, Christopher, Weiskamp, Grimes, Bliejenbergh, McBride, Sims at 39. I am not sure about Nix. Jones falls just below my list. Don’t like Edwards that much- too stiff. Todd might be ok. But, in general we are on same page.
Don’t think Christopher will be there in the second but I’m also intrigued by Bliejenbergh.
Christopher will probably be gone. Yes. I share same ideas about Bliejenbergh but worry about all the picks at OKC. 6, 16, 18, 34, 37. I think there very well could be a good pick at 39. Draft is good at very top, soft in middle but extends to early 40’s.
Good podcast. Although, I think you might want to take back that comment about Harkless getting too many minutes and Woodard being able to take his spot. Harkless is the best wing defender the Kings have had in years. He might appear aloof at times but he’s not. He played better defense on Doncic than anyone else. He also guarded Zion well. Having a guy like guarding the opposing team’s best wing/forward allows Barnes to focus on offense.
I mean, guard the opponent’s best player is an important role, not the easiest one, and nothing to scoff at.
Addition: JRE will be gone in first.
The large number of OKC, NOP, Houston picks may create trades or Euro stashes. The stashes drive down the American players.
Luka Garza would work fine at 39.
A few Euros opted out of draft: Prkacin, Bagdi ( 7/1 center) and Houstpouli.
The first would have been taken 39 or above. Too bad, tightens up picks
You can never have enough wings.
Yves Pons or Herbert Jones (Both SEC All Defense and Defensive Player of the Year) at 39.
Yves Pons is built like a brick $@#%house and ready right now,
and he’s either going to dunk and block shots for the Kings, or dunk and block shots on the Kings.
Roko withdrew from the draft this year. Get to talk about him more next year.
Disappointed he won’t become the steal of the draft at #39 but excited to see him as a clear lottery pick next year.
I liked the idea of having a “true” PG in the D-League to help with the development of the young guys that are not yet capable of creating their own shot consistently. Allows them to improve on their current skills and maintain confidence, while working on other aspects of their games.
