Let’s all watch it again, shall we?
With 13.6 seconds left and down 1 to the Golden State Warriors, Malik Monk dribbled into the corner against Andrew Wiggins. After a few isolation dribbles he took off to the center of the paint. Wiggins stayed with him and got a hand up on the shot, which Monk threw up off one foot while fading back – one foot, while fading back! And this was after trying to stop a dime…with one foot. The ball hits the backboard square in the middle and drops into the basket.
The go ahead bucket would seal the deal for the 124-123 win and finally give the Kings the victory over the Warriors the fans have all been waiting for this season.
Monk spoke about the shot after the game.
“I was just searching for a little space. I had him on a little in and out, he bit for it and that gave me the space to get the little floater up, glass I guess [smiles].” Monk said. “Go to the bank man.”
De’Aaron Fox was all smiles about the miracle shot as well.
“[Laughs] It was an awkward shot,” Fox said. “I’ve seen him make crazy shots going back to high school. So, I don’t want to say surprised but that was a crazy shot that went in for sure, but with the game he was having I think that he would tell you that he felt a little confident in that shot.”
Mike Brown spoke about what transpired a few moments leading up to the possession before Monk’s shot went in, which was just as chaotic.
“Crazy, but the way this game was going, I was OK with it because the more chaotic it was, it seemed to be in our favor because our guys were finding ways to respond and throughout the chaos it was bringing them energy,” Brown said. “It was chaotic, our guys did a fantastic job of trying to play for each other during that chaos.”
Steve Kerr weighed in on what went wrong for the Warriors as well.
“Just didn’t get it done down the stretch. Down the stretch, you’ve got to take care of the ball and we didn’t do that. And then the last play, perfect defense, Wiggs was fantastic and Monk hits that tough toss to the rim, and give Sacramento credit, they fought like crazy and earned the win,” Kerr said.
The Kings are now 10-6 on the season and 6th in the Western Conference. The Kings also won their Group C division of the In-Season Tournament and will move on to the knock out rounds.

I wouldn’t mind 7 more articles on this win.
Wiggins played perfect defense, and Monk’s shot was pure, distilled bullshit, but sometimes bullshit is enough.
Love the W and many good things in the win but my main concerns still reared their ugly head.
Sabonis disappears in 1/2 court in playoff type games. Not aggressive. Not shooting as they leave him alone at key. That has to change for sustained success and playoff runs.
Also hoping Fox’s ankle eventually heals because it’s hindering him, particularly at end of games/in paint.
Let’s go Kings no bank shot called but the ball rewards effort and Monk gives his all night in and night out. Feels like we got a chance to get out of a mid-game slump whenever he enters the game.
Kings v Warriors is a great game and I think this win gives our young team some mental toughness for upcoming matches against them. LTB!!
coach steve- always ready with the fake back-handed compliment. “Toss to the rim” i.e. the Kings were lucky.
Yep, and chew on that on your ride down 80 you whiny idiot.
Another seller piece Blake. No team ever plays a perfect game. This game was just imperfect enough that I turned it off several times until the 4th when my son texted me and said ” dad you gotta watch this”. I’m not particularly worried about Domas’s game tonight or what it says about our future. The Kings managed to steal a win away from the dubs and I think that says plenty about our future
