Welcome to Around The Realm, where we discuss major stories from around the NBA.
In an absolute bombshell, Kevin Durant has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets.
Kevin Durant has requested a trade out of Brooklyn, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

Brooklyn Nets GM Sean Marks is working with Kevin Durant and his business manager Rich Kleiman on finding a trade for the franchise star, Kleiman tells ESPN.

Multiple reporters are indicating that Durant would prefer to be traded to the Phoenix Suns or the Miami Heat. Durant has four years and $200 million remaining on his contract, but has no player options and doesn’t have a no-trade clause. However, while the Nets will surely try to maximize their return, teams are unlikely to pay the Nets ransom to land KD without assurances that he’ll be happy to report.
Kyrie Irving is also expected to be available in trade at this point, but the Nets are not expected to trade Ben Simmons, according to Sam Amick.
Source close to the situation tells @TheAthletic that the Nets are expected to keep Ben Simmons. Some had rightfully wondered if there would be a ripple effect here on the 25-year-old's Nets future. https://t.co/2TnO6n71xI

NBA free agency kicks off officially at 3 PM PT. In the meantime, use this thread to discuss any trades or reports from around the league.
Harrison Barnes, Davion Mitchell, Richaun Holmes and 4 unprotected 1st. Send it Monte.
I was going to ask for the folks around here to put together legit trade packages, so you’re ahead of the game!
I mean KD ain’t coming here, but I thought it might be fun to see what people come up with.
Wow… if Kings are serious about ending the playoff streak, go get Durant with 4 years on his deal
Nets ain’t tanking. They have no first-round picks. You are looking at Sabonis and Fox and draft assets. And then Durant would just say, go pound sand
From a strictly legal perspective, Durant isn’t entitled to any say in the matter.
I saw the comment before I saw who the poster was and thought to myself……..”that’s gotta be sims”
Disclaimer: I am not an attorney.
Regarding Durant saying to pound sand, he has a 4 year contract and I will add see Webber, Chris. Kings became great when they got star talent. Where is the star talent on this team?
That’s a pretty good haul for the Nets, since KD would demand a trade again next season from Monte, and all those future picks would probably be top 5.
Maybe KD likes it here once he realizes there’s no media here to bug him all the time and the fans would LOVE him.
Nets will se this and think “Kings will do some crazy Kangz shit even with KD”
Deal done
Might have to include Murray in that
Do it.
3 firsts and a pick swap should be adequate.
I’ll have what she’s having.
how do you know that’s my pronoun of choice?
It’s a line from a movie, dear. We’re all well-aware of how important things like pronouns are to you.
If I am the Nets, I am asking for Ayton and Bridges and multiple picks.
Would not be a bad return for Brooklyn. Then see what they can get for Kyrie
Kyrie for Russ and his expiring $47m. Gives them some room next off season
Now why would you want to help the Lakers, f them
Send Kyrie to the moon
Would Kyrie actually help, though?
Kyrie would implode the moon
How do you implode something that’s flat?
Perhaps like a ketchup covered porcelain plate certain people might throw against the wall in a tantrum.
Nice, my flat moon joke is a little late. My bad
I’m throwing you a pity thumb.
Band name. BOOM.
Well, it’s fairly round, close to perfectly round, especially for a constructed object that’s hollow inside. Most amazing……it’s powered by a 5 hp trolling motor which is far more powerful than you might think in a vacuum.
he could give new life to that team whereas with Russ we know they’re screwed
The moon is flat too?
No, but it is made of cheese.
Russ and Ben Simmons throwing crap at the rim and praying it goes in.
Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2023 Brooklyn Nets!
Or keep Kyrie. I mean, Kyrie, Harris/Curry, Mikal, Simmons, Ayton is a pretty damned good starting 5. Then you either trade Kyrie later in the year, or go into next offseason with the Durant haul and Kyrie’s 36MM coming off the books.
This is the way
Good points. All that would matter is Kyrie buying in.
My thinking is that Ayton is pretty disenchanted with the Suns organization, which I don’t think is a stretch. If I’m him, I wouldn’t consent to a S&T, and let Phoenix lose him for nothing. He can sign wherever he wants, and unless Phoenix matches, he’s got full agency.
What benefit comes to Ayton by helping the Suns?
He is restricted – Suns can not lose him if they don’t want to.
Send his ass back to OKC.
This. Durant is immature and creates drama everywhere he goes. The Nets should maximize their return and not worry about where to send any of the problem children on that team.
Zero chance Durant reports here, so any discussion of that seems pointless.
In that case, send all the immature knuckleheads to OKC (Kyrie, Russ, Lebron). OKC has the assets to acquire them all.
Get Harden, too! Put the old band back together!
THIS☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
I want this so much
Durant has become a Front Runner and Ring Chaser . He wanted the new 4 year deal 6 months ago . Signed contract and word means nothing to too many .
C’mon Memphis! Pull the trigger and get KD!
Or maybe the Pelicans offer up Zion?
God I love this league.
Why do you want WC teams getting better?
Well if we’re making the WC better:
Reunite Russ, KD, Ibaka and Beard in OKC. That would be sick for some unfinished business.
Cryrie reunited with LeQueen.
LFG!
If the King’s FO really wants to end that playoff drought, here is their chance.
Not a bad core for KD to work with as long as Fox and Sabonis are not involved in a trade.
A big 3 of KD, Fox and Sabonis could do some damage.
It would be malpractice to not acknowledge that the chance discussed here is infinitesimal, for reasons that go well-beyond a simple disinclination to try.
I like the way you talk.
The truth:
I’ve been studied by the best neurologists and phrenologists in the world since I was a child, and they reached the same conclusions, with the exception of some rogue phrenologists who said I had the skull of a milkmaid.
You know that old thing about how each of us is only using about ten percent of our brain capacities? In my case, it’s not true.
My head, while on the small side, contains a skull about as thick as a New York Yellow Pages. My brain is the size of a peach pit, but I’m using 100% of it.
And that’s my brave story.
New York yellow pages don’t exist. You have a transparent skull? That sucks
Durant requests considerations to the #1 ranked Western Conference team who led the League in wins last season and the #1 ranked Eastern Conference team.
The #12 ranked team in the East is Washington and the #12 in the West is Sacramento. I don’t believe either presents a significant boost in the chance to acquiring another ring for KD.
But I am sure I am interpreting his intentions incorrectly.
The ring chaser continues to chase.
they should trade him to the heat, that team would be fire
One the one hand I applaud the players getting more power in the league. On the other hand, this is a pretty big mess and may make teams wary of doing big trades.
Interesting to see how it plays out.
I agree with you. The players generate the revenue, and should have agency over where they work and live. What Durant and many others are asking is for contracts to be non-binding to the player’s advantage only.
Durant had free agency in 2020, and signed an extension less than a year ago. That’s the kind of freedom that workers should have. If all of that is still inadequate, then don’t sign the contract.
Legally binding agreements have to be binding on both parties, or they are meaningless.
They do have agency…it’s called choosing to sign a contract! There is an incentive to sign a long-term deal (more money, more security). They can trade that for being a free agent every year and deciding. Most just choose not to do that.
They choose not to do that because they know they have leverage. Honestly a Walmart worker would do the same if they have that kind of power. They would sign max and then make demands.
Organize.
Looks like they’re trying to trade Irving as well.. Could be Monte’s chance to extract some of the Nets key players like Harris or Curry.. Or help out a team like the Hawks in getting Collins to shred salary so they can get Durant..
Common Monte!
Miami gets KD, sends all draft picks possible, Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro
Brooklyn plays seth curry, tyler herro, duncan robinson, joe harris and ben simmons
Simmons avereges 0/20/20
This made me laugh out loud. Is it ok that I typed out “laughed out loud”
Yes….But only because I would hate you if you put in LOL.
Wouldn’t mind trying to bring Seth Curry back. But with the recent reports about Malik Monk probably signing with us as soon as FA starts I don’t think Monte would pursue it. Plus Curry only has 1 year left on his deal.
So basically what I’m saying is…
No, to Seth Curry. He reminds me of Vin Diesel with hair.
He loves family and Corona?
Get him here! I so badly want to talk smack to my friends in Seattle about him playing here while they still do not have a team.
That alone is worth an extra unprotected first.
Fire
It’s higher than I’d have liked, but I’m not mad.
Rate is OK, but the term is great.
Decent player. 100% moveable contract. About as good as if gets in Kangz FA.
Kings looking at Olidipo who signed for 1 year, 11M with Heat and at House who signed with Philly for 2 years, 9 M????
Next up- a Martin twin I hope.
Monk did go from one shit show to another but the second one got him more cash and a friend.
what would DDV have cost? I know depends on offer as RFA and I know QO declined. But curious as to what Kings offer might have been.
I suppose we will see what he gets offered.
Monk is smaller, shoots better and DDV is better on D. ( there are a couple of D’s in his name)
How much better on D? Not sure it’s that huge of a gap. Plus we have Mike Brown now. I’ll take the consistent shooting and creation!!
What, 2 million more than You Andy Sims deemed appropriate? It’s a pretty sweet deal, let’s not talk as though we know the going rate or the actual cost of what it takes to get a guy like that in here.
plain and simple, it’s a great signing. We should all be celebrating. In my opinion
I think my $6-8 mil but willing to go as high as $10 mil was about Oladipo, but I’ve got pretty much the same take about Monk.
I honestly don’t know if he and Davis are given the same minutes that Davis won’t be more productive, but when you need shooting, you hire shooters. Two years at this rate is just solid value.
I can get behind that. I think he’s best used as a 6th man.
That sucks
Okay, I don’t like this. I want him to do well, but not for the Lakers!
He’ll replace AD by November when Davis goes out for somehow missing three vertabra.
All of this is just a distraction to real shit we should be paying attention to. Are you the Kings Herald or American politicians feeding things to the media to avert our gaze?!?!
Vivek?
Hahahahahaha
He who laughs alone laughs best.
Well, Miles Bridges is off the table now. Possibly (hopefully) done for good:

Holy shit, Minnesota is really going to be something this year.
Didi is ring hunting. Took a big discount!
