Marvin Bagley confirmed Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is currently going through NBA protocols. Bagley, who addressed media via Zoom, said he caught the virus right before training camp began.
“I caught COVID while I was out in Arizona a couple of days before we had to be out here [Sacramento] so I wasn’t here the first few days of camp for individual workouts, he said.
Though Bagley obviously hasn’t been able to participate in full training camp, he has been watching since it started and communicating with the coaches. He said he only missed the individual workouts the team did before training camp began. Though he doesn’t expect to be available for the first Kings preseason game he said he should be back on the court “very soon.”
Bagley experienced symptoms from the virus the first three or four days, he said, and described the symptoms as body aches and headaches similar to the flu, but worse. He now feels back to normal.
Aside from recovering from COVID-19, Bagley also seems to have recovered from his foot injury suffered prior to the Orlando Bubble, saying he feels the best I’ve ever felt in a while. He’s been focusing on his diet and taking care of his body. In terms of his game he has been watching video and working on everything, but specifically his playmaking and his shot.
My shot feels good, watching the film it looks good, he said.
Head coach Luke Walton mentioned Wednesday that Bagley’s shot does look better.
Glad to hear that Bagley appears to have recovered from both COVID-19 and his foot injury.
Here are a few other updates from Wednesday’s training camp.
Hassan Whiteside Update
We reported Monday that Hassan Whiteside has a mild, right calf strain and was day-to-day. Head coach Luke Walton said Whiteside had a pretty heavy workout Wednesday before practice, but they still held him out of the main practice.
Whiteside is the only player on the Kings injury list currently, according to Walton.
Fox Hype
De’Aaron Fox got a decent amount of hype from Nemanja Bjelica on Wednesday.
“I don’t know what he did this summer, but for me, he’s looking like an All Star. That’s very important for us because last year he was hurt at the beginning of the season for like five or six weeks, and that really hurt us. So as long as he’s good, he’s our leader and I’m so happy for him. Maybe that extension was a lot of help [laughs], but he deserves all of it and he looks very good on the court, he said.
Bjelica also said that Fox is showing that he is a great leader.
Haliburton Hype
All aboard as the hype train continues to roll through! Bjelica and Walton both hyped up Kings rookie Tyrese Haliburton.
“He’s very coachable like the rest of our rookies. He’s very talented, gifted. He can do a lot of things. I like the way he knows how to play, he’s very like high-IQ guy. He can pass, he can also shoot. He’s sneaky athletic, Bjelica said.
Walton made similar comments.
“I’m very impressed with Tyrese’s understanding of the offensive playbook already, Walton said. He’s got a lot of work to do still as we all do, but just his understanding in a short time since being drafted has been impressive.”
Any hype is positive, and sometimes can end up being just hype, but it is a certainly a good sign that basketball IQ is what is coming through in these comments about Haliburton.
We’ll continue to keep you updated as training camp continues.
Does that count as an injury? I am sure relieved that he has since recovered…
“Superteam, just not dumb.”
That’s more hype from Bjelica than I’ve seen in his previous two seasons here! I hope he gets traded to a playoff team this year because F*** it, (he) deserves it!
He could absolutely be making clutch shots in the playoffs. He deserves that.
Probably one of my fav quotes from a Kings player ever.
I’d hate to see him move on, but I would be happy to see him help knock some shots in to help a contending team. Especially if they were against the L***rs.
Can’t wait for the preseason games! Hopefully they air it here.
Can MB3 stay healthy?
I wish that was it. Can he shoot? Can he pass? Can he play D? Please, shut us up, Marv!
200000 Americans couldn’t stay healthy yesterday, and another 3000 couldn’t even stay alive, so I’m not going to attribute Bagley’s seemingly mild illness to some sort of personal failing.
I am living for these updates. Thank you Kings Herald team and community.
Ditto! Love hearing tidbits, even if most is hype you would see from every team.
I sure hope Bagley’s shot has improved ðð½
Be well, Marvin.
Marvin’s had bad luck ever since he’s been here…maybe this season will be different. When healthy, I believe he can really help this team.
Crazy how fast the rooks will be going from draft to NBA games. It’s like three weeks.
And when will poor Marvin finally catch a break from health issues. He’s been the physical embodiment of Murphy’s law the last two years.
We haven’t had a player with a truly elite BBIQ in so long that I’m irrationally excited about Haliburton. I know it’s all preseason hype but I really think he’s going to be good in a year or two.
I am in the minority concerning Haliburton. It reminds me of Lonzo. How is that working out for him? There will be nights when the shots fall But, a majority of the games that shot is going to look ugly and he will be missing a lot of shots. If Haliburton is not willing to work on his mechanics, I doubt he will make much of an impact. In regards to Bagley, I don’t have much hope. He’s a prehistoric big. Unless he develops an outside shot and some semblance of defense. Unfortunately, Bagley is one more injury away from being a Bust. Kings should be in bottom 7-8 in the league this year. If they can move Hield, Barnes, and Bjelica they could move into the bottom 5. First Half record 12-24.
People who claim to know things say that FT% matters. Lonzo has been a pretty attrocious FT shooter (67% at UCLA & 49% NBA). While in two college seasons Haliburton averaged 77% on FTs and maintained 42-43% on 3s both years. I’d say he’s shown more consistency and all around shooting ability than Lonzo’s one good 3pt year at UCLA.
That said, I don’t really expect him to shoot more than 35% on 3s this year. Rookies often struggle to shoot well and adjust to the faster game right away. But long term that doesn’t seem like a major worry.
35% from distance for any rookie is nothing but a successful first year.
Prehistoric in the sense that he’s 270 pounds, has a vertical leap of four inches, and runs a 40-yard dash in twelve seconds? An early-NBA prototypical center, is that what you mean?
Here’s what ESPN’s Kevin Pelton and Mike Schmitz had to say about what they expect from Halliburton in his rookie season:
That’s high praise there at the end. I know it’s an abundance of “if’s” but … if Haliburton is the real deal… if Fox progresses… if Marvin stays healthy… if McNair makes smart trades this year… if we nail a top 5 pick in 2021… Shit, I haven’t even had a drink yet tonight.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Glad that he is healthy again. With COVID, that is not a given.
also, isn’t it weird that we don’t know yet the exact nature of his foot injury? Why keep that under wraps?
I’m glad Marvin says he’s feeling well, but I’m going to curb my enthusiasm until he’s managed to play 25+ minutes in 15 straight games.
Wishing full recovery to Marvin and those around him. Fuck COVID.
Word! At least we have more team immunity now.
I mean he is unlikely to be reinfected by the same strain. Maybe with significant viral mutation.
I was mostly joking and I assume you were too.
There really isn’t enough data to say any of that with certainty at the moment. We still have a lot to learn about reinfection rates and how long defenses remain after infection and/or vaccination.
For sure. I like the gif too.
Glad Marvin’s feeling better from the Vid and his foot. Ease him back in. This is his make or break season if you ask me. Need to see solid consistent performance.
To all my Jewish brethren and sisthren: happy hannukah!

Happy hannukah from your non-religious brethren and sisthren as well!
I am going to assume you spelled everything correctly, but my iPhone sure does not like it.
