Sacramento Kings assistant general manager Wes Wilcox is reportedly slated to become the men’s basketball general manager at the University of Utah.
The news was first reported by ESPN.

It was then confirmed by 1320’s co-host of The Insiders, James Ham.

Wilcox was one of the finalists for Monte McNair’s job during the team’s 2020 search for a new general manager. Wilcox was added to the Kings front office by McNair in October 2020. In January 2023, the Kings extended both Wilcox and McNair.
There has been much speculation about the extent to which Wilcox made decisions in the front office. When it was originally announced he was joining McNair’s staff, a press release stated that he would be involved “in all facets of front office operations including roster construction, strategy and player evaluation.” If that was still the case, then it means he was heavily involved in the major franchise-changing decisions that occurred this season in firing Mike Brown, trading De’Aaron Fox and signing Zach LaVine.
With the Kings in a bit of a spiral on the floor and a confusing future at the moment, this news is interesting. It could be the start of cleaning of the house or a small blip, but it is an indication that things are continuing to change for a franchise yet again in flux.
No idea to be pleased or disappointed as the owner shit show rolls on – lost hope and with it im if honest struggling to care
Just saw Wes’s statement thanking the Kings organization, fans and city for his time here. Much like HB and Huerter, Wes was professional and gracious with his statement showing he wants the best for the players, coaches, staff and fans that remain here after he is gone. I’m sure there’s much more to the story of his time here, but like HB and Huerter, he looked at the big picture and did not resort to the “burn it down” tactic as he was leaving town.
1 bad GM down, 1 to go.
Unfortunately, Vlade has once again had an increased presence around the organization over the past couple months. So rather than one step forward, this could be the start of six steps back.
There’s been a hell of a lot more than 1 bad GM in the Vivek era, and I agree, this could be the beginning of something far worse.
Has The Little Shit been around more/more involved lately?
I was hoping this might be a small opening for Monte to have power since it seems Wilcox was a Vivek yes man ?
If a drastic change does not occur-ie-owner back off- fans will need to protest and stop going to games.
Unfortunately, don’t know if that will matter.
Fly away little bird, be free.
I hope you can get the stain out.
Either he saw the writing on the wall, or he just really likes weak beer.
And so it begins…

Next Monte’s bullet-riddled, vest-covered body will be found in a Cadillac parked in Midtown while the outro to “Layla” plays over the car radio.

Shoot, how are we going to make decisions with only 15 voices left in the room?
“Franchise…in flux.” Rhymes with sucks.
That’s two assistants and an assistant GM leaving within a year. They weren’t fired. They left for greener pastures. IMO, that says more about the state of the franchise than any opinion we may have on those individuals.
If you have a opportunity to escape basketball hell, you take it.
Jordi took an NBA head coaching position. That is understandable. Same with Luke. He wasn’t going to be around since Brown was fired.
Idk about Wes. I don’t care about him either. How involved was he, actually? Was he a/the rotten fruit in the basket?
The rotten fruit is and always will be Vivek.
To believe otherwise is foolhardy
Is this a promotion for Wes? Leaving basketball hell is something most people look towards.
Can I ask: What does the assistant GM do? Team has 15 players, like 20 coaches and staff. It takes more than one person to manage this?
