The Kings Herald Show featuring Jerry Reynolds is back with a special, different kind of episode featuring comedian, writer, actor, and most importantly, lifelong Sacramento Kings fan — Hasan Minhaj! We also had our very own Kevin Fippin jump on the podcast with us this week to talk with Minhaj about his early life growing up in the Sacramento area, and his rise to becoming the most famous and outspoken celebrity Kings fan going right now.
It was a fun show, and we wanted to present Minhaj with a little token of our appreciation for spending his Saturday with us, so we had Jerry Reynolds provide alternate commentary on his 2019 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game performance. You can watch that footage below, and you can hear his live reaction to watching it over Zoom with Jerry at the 30:50 mark of the podcast.
You can find the full timestamps for the episode below:
- (4:20) Hasan Minhaj, on growing up a Sacramento Kings fan
- (12:40) The important role sports plays in civic pride
- (15:40) Hasan Minhaj, on being the biggest celebrity Kings fan right now
- (21:15) Sacramento as a free agent destination
- (25:15) Hasan Minhaj, on being at All-Star Weekend when DeMarcus Cousins was traded
- (30:50) Presenting Hasan Minhaj with a gift from Jerry Reynolds and The Kings Herald
- (36:55) Hasan Minhaj, on defending his Sacramento Kings fandom
- (40:35) What do the Kings have to do to finally make the playoffs?
- (42:30) The Luka Doncic conversation
- (56:30) Buddy Hield’s future in Sacramento, and Tyrese Haliburton ROTY campaign
- (1:03:30) The toughest competitors in the NBA today

We also wanted to just say thank you again to everyone for their support over the years, for both the podcast and the new website we’ve tried to rebuild from scratch. It is the passionate online Kings community here and your support that has allowed us to land a guest like Hasan. Thank you.
Can’t wait to listen to this!
One of my favorite clips ever is Hasan telling Stephen A. that Mitch Richmond was the 2nd best player of all time.
Kings Fans vs The World!
I died laughing and also said, Facts!
Kind of disagree with Jerry and Hasan here, with regards to drafting or playoffs. I just think if we are hitting the playoffs, our ultimate goal should be championship. And with the current iteration or future of this core, that’s not happening. There are just too many other teams with far better talent than what we have currently.
I didn’t get a chance to full articulate because of time constraints and what not, but I’m of a similar mindset. The goal of a professional franchise is to win a championship… I’d gladly extend the franchise’s playoff drought another three years if it meant the next decade was deep playoff runs and championship contention.
I think with good draft position/smart off-season this year we could start think about playoffs soon… but talent is the ultimate decider in so many things in the NBA and the Kings have a lot of ground to make up.
I agree with you. You guys did a good job explaining though, time constraints and all.
But I also get their side. Last playoffs for us is 2006 but a couple years of tanking for me to get the best possible outcome is better than years of playoff mediocrity (even if we do make it).
Off-topic + more than a little gushy, but wow, first Jerry and now Hasan?? Genuinely so impressed with the content the KH puts out on a regular basis. Keep up the great work, fellas
Very impressive!
If they can next get Haliburton on, they should win an Emmy as well as the internet.
Nicolas Cage would also work.
Winning an Emmy would be quite the accomplishment for a show that isn’t televised!
I’m a dummy!
I guess they’ll have to NAB a different kind of award.
Pretty sure if you broadcast it as video on the web it’s eligible in the NorCA/Reno/Hawaii chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Break out the web cams!
That membership fee though. ð¡
Who’s the last one to use LaBradford’s credit card?
Nic Cage would be great.
Certainly much better than the “website that shall not be named.”
I had to search to find out who this guy is…
Started on the Daily Show. Recently finished a run with his own Daily Show style show on Netflix called Patriot Act. His special Homecoming King on Netflix is really good and is what I’d suggest as a jumping off point if you want to check out his work.
You’ll also see him co-staring on season two of The Morning Show with Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carell coming up pretty soon. Season one landed like eight emmy nods.
I heard Reese Witherspoon isn’t as big of a star nowadays as Kirsten Dunst.
Jesus, I just got so mad all over again
Awesome content as always! Loved watching Hasan’s Patriot Act, and didn’t realize he was a big Kings fan. It’s so cool you guys were able to get him to come on the podcast! Can’t wait to listen to it today!
Love me some Hasan, and I’m so pleased with all of his success, he’s really earned it.
Plus, Jerry telling him to go ahead and knock a twelve-year-old’s dick in the dirt.
that’s the clip we’re gonna send to all the podcast award shows
Greg ruined podcast award shows.
So good I had to listen to this episode twice.
Hasan’s story about his 530 number is like the EXACT same story about my number just a different cell store from back in the day. Love how hard he reps our city.
Always loved his line of “I’ve been a Warriors fan ever since Kobe retired”
Really enjoyed the last episode. Not really familiar with his work but that speaks more to not having cable until a year ago. Today is my weekly trip to
covidRaleys so I’ll squeeze my oranges and smile with earbuds in for sure!Great stuff guys. Knocking it out of the park!
Now you’re getting celebrity guests? Really looking forward to listening to this episode!
I don’t know that I would call Kevin a celebrity?
I mean, how often do you get Marcin Gortat to come on your show??
This was an awesome episode. I’d love to see a celebrity group chat of Kings fans that include Hasan, Brie, Hanks, and some other random people that adds variety to that group haha.
Hilarious interview, had me cryin all the way through. Hasan is the man, and all we got as Kings fans, at least we got a good celebrity rep.
Hasan def has me re-thinking tanking but I would say we should probably still tank this year, given how bad we are looking.
