The Sacramento Kings will waive forward Jabari Parker, according to a report from Jason Jones of The Athletic on Thursday.

Parker, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, was acquired by the Kings at last year’s trade deadline and exercised his $6.5 million player option to stay in Sacramento in November. The hope was that Parker would show the flashes he showed early on his career, but he wasn’t even able to crack Luke Walton’s rotation.

In total, Parker appeared in nine games for the Kings and averaged 6.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. There are no reports on teams being interested in him at this time.

Even after waiving Parker, the Kings have to waive another player to get under the NBA roster maximum because they acquired four players — Delon Wright, Maurice Harkless, Chris Silva and Terence Davis — at the NBA trade deadline. For that reason, the Kings will waive Mfiondu Kabengele, who they recently acquired from the LA Clippers, according to Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee.

The Kings’ roster now stands at 15 players, not including their two two-way players.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
