The Sacramento Kings have agreed to a sign-and-trade with the Milwaukee Bucks that will see Bogdan Bogdanovic and Justin James head to Milwaukee in exchange for Donte DiVincenzo, Ersan Ilyasova and DJ Wilson, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN on Monday night.

The trade won’t be made official until Nov. 22, when the free agency moratorium is lifted. The Kings were able to complete this sign-and-trade because Bogdanovic was set to become a restricted free agent. The terms of Bogdanovic’s deal haven’t been disclosed.

Bogdanovic was a favorite of the Kings’ former vice president of basketball operations and general manager Vlade Divac and according to a report from Jason Jones of The Athletic in September, Divac planned on matching all offers for Bogdanovic. The Kings’ new general manager Monte McNair also valued Bogdanovic, but apparently he thought Bogdanovic was more valuable as an asset.

While it’s unclear what’s next for the Kings, it appears they’re headed for a rebuild. That might not be what Kings fans want to hear after almost two decades of rebuilding — which peaked at a 39-win season just a year ago — but it’s probably what has to be done to repair the damage that Divac did.

The Kings will acquire to former No. 17 overall picks in this deal: Wilson (2017) and DiVincenzo (2018). However, while they were drafted at the same spot, DiVincenzo is the only one that has lived up to his draft spot.

Offensively, DiVincenzo’s numbers don’t stand out, but defensively, he’s an absolute stud. Last season, DiVincenzo ranked third in the NBA in defensive rating (101.3) and sixth in defensive box plus-minus, according to Basketball Reference. He also led the Bucks in steals per game (1.3) with the highest steal percentage (2.6%). In the 1,520 minutes DiVincenzo was on the court in the regular season, the Bucks posted a net rating of +12.2 I.

It’s not going to take very long for him to become a Kings fan favorite.

The Kings also got a solid NBA player in Ersan Ilyasova, who’s a career 36.5% shooter as a power forward. The Kings technically already have a stretch-four type in Nemanja Bjelica, but Bjelica’s contract is non-guaranteed for the 2019-20 season. Suffice to say, there is still some roster shuffling that needs to be done on McNair’s end.
