The Milwaukee Bucks just completed a massive trade for Jrue Holiday, but the team reportedly isn’t done dealing. Per Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Bucks are still interested in acquiring Bogdan Bogdanovic this offseason via a sign-and-trade.

Milwaukee’s interest in Bogdanovic had been reported earlier this offseason. At that point, the Bucks had a larger collection of assets available to use in a trade for the restricted free agent. Now, most of their first-round picks are tied up in that deal with New Orleans, so all they have to offer the Kings are young players and salary relief.

Those young players would include Donte DiVincenzo and D.J. Wilson, and potentially also Sterling Brown, depending on Sacramento’s opinion. A more compelling reason to do a sign-and-trade, at least from the Kings’ perspective, would be to shed long-term salary. The team probably wouldn’t want to part with Buddy Hield if Bogdanovic was also on his way out. However, dumping the contract of Harrison Barnes — which the Bucks have already expressed a willingness to take on — could be the sweetener Sacramento needs to carry out this trade.

The previous front office clearly had a strong fondness for Bogdanovic and cleared out cap room with the specific purpose of bringing back the Serbian guard in restricted free agency. There is now a new regime in charge, however, and that group may decide that at 28 years old, Bogdanovic is not on the same developmental timeline as De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley III. It might be worth saying goodbye to Bogdanovic if the Kings can squeeze some future assets out of the deal.

Unfortunately, the assets the Bucks have are not that appealing. Barnes’ contract isn’t so onerous that it requires a salary dump either, considering it descends every year. This isn’t to say that the Kings shouldn’t consider potentially moving on from Bogdanovic, but it makes more sense to do so with a team like the Hawks, who could send back a young wing (Kevin Huerter or Cam Reddish, for example) with some upside.

Milwaukee will certainly exercise all avenues to improve its team with Giannis Antetokounmpo headed towards free agency, but the Kings are in control here. They have the player the Bucks want, and they can decide whether to move him. Right now, this deal wouldn’t do Sacramento any favors.
