Soon, Kings fans will know whether or not Bogdan Bogdanovic will be back in Sacramento next season, as the team has until Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. ET to match the Atlanta Hawks’ four-year, $72 million offer sheet for Bogdanovic.

The general consensus among Kings fans is that the team shouldn’t let Bogdanovic go for nothing, and it’s hard to argue against that line of thinking. Bogdanovic is a restricted free agent, and he obviously has a market around the league. However, it seems the Kings have already weighed the pros and cons of keeping Bogdanovic around for at least a few more months, and they’ve decided that letting him go would be the best course of action for both parties.

That could change between now and 11:59 p.m. ET, but the Kings are running out of time to have a change of heart. In other words, it’s more than likely that Bogdanovic will play for the Atlanta Hawks next season, and the Kings won’t get any compensation for it. That’s not great.

If the Bogdanovic free agency saga ends with the Kings letting one of their best players go for nothing, there will be plenty of fingers pointed — starting with the Milwaukee Bucks — but the only person that will really have to answer to answer for everything that’s transpired since draft night is Monte McNair. Kings fans went into with a renewed sense of optimism and it took not even a week for that optimism to fade.

McNair might not owe an explanation to Kings fans, but he certainly needs to do something to indicate what the plan is going forward because right now, it seems like they’re rebuilding without any of the benefits that come with rebuilding.
