Richaun Holmes out for at least next three 3 games with hamstring strain

The center will be re-evaluated when the team returns home.

The Sacramento Kings will be without one of their top players for at least the next three games. The team announced that an MRI revealed that center Richaun Holmes has a strained right hamstring that will keep him out of the lineup for the remainder of the road trip.

Holmes has been one of the most consistent players for Sacramento all season. The 27-year-old is averaging career-highs in points (14.1), rebounds (8.9) and minutes (30.0). He suffered the injury during Monday’s loss to the New Orleans Pelicans and sat the entirety of the second half.

The Kings will sorely miss Holmes’ presence. Sacramento’s net rating is 8.9 points better per 100 possessions when he is on the court. Holmes missed three games with a knee injury in February, and the Kings were winless without him in the lineup.

With Sacramento’s playoff hopes fading by the day, this could be the final blow to any chance the Kings had of ending their playoff drought.

Head coach Luke Walton will likely go with Damian Jones to start in Holmes’ place for the remainder of his 10-day contract, and this could provide the Kings impetus to bring Jones back if he succeeds. Veteran Hassan Whiteside could also see an increase in minutes, or even Chimezie Metu or recent addition Chris Silva.

Holmes is due to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
