The Milwaukee Bucks are no longer pursuing a sign-and-trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic, according to a report from Sam Amick of The Athletic. The Sacramento Kings and Bucks had previously agreed to a trade that would have sent Bogdanovic to Milwaukee in exchange for Donte DiVincenzo, Ersan Ilyasova and D.J. Wilson.

Even though this trade has officially been pronounced dead, this isn’t the last time we’ll hear of it. On Thursday, the NBA reportedly launched an investigation into the reported sign-and-trade between the Bucks and Kings. If the NBA finds evidence of tampering, both teams could get fined; or worse, they could lose draft picks.

Bogdanovic will now enter restricted free agency, where the Kings will have the ability to match any offer for him. However, with a max contract extension on the horizon for De’Aaron Fox’s and north of $87 million committed to Buddy Hield over the next four years, Monte McNair may not want to bring him back — if he did, he wouldn’t have agreed to such a low return for Bogdanovic in the first place.

Expect the Kings to continue to pursue sign-and-trades for Bogdanovic, this time with Bogdanovic’s permission. The Atlanta Hawks are a team worth monitoring, as Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported on Friday that there’s interest on Atlanta’s side. The Hawks are one of the few teams that can absorb Bogdanovic into their cap space.
