Bogdan Bogdanovic is expected to meet with the Hawks and Lakers when free agency begins

The Kings shooting guard should have multiple suitors.

What a difference a week makes.

On Monday, Bogdan Bogdanovic was supposed to be in Milwaukee, Donte DiVincenzo was supposed to be in Sacramento, and the Kings were proceeding with the next phase of their rebuild.

Now, the sign-and-trade is dead, both teams are hoping that there is no residual damage from the league’s tampering investigation, and Bogdanovic is proceeding ahead as a restricted free agent.

Although the first option is off the table, as Bogdanovic was rumored to be quite interested in playing with Giannis Antetokounmpo, it should still be a fruitful offseason for the Kings guard, who will have multiple offers even given his restricted status. The Athletic reported that two teams in particular are already on Bogdanovic’s list:

Note also that Bogdanovic will only be taking meetings “when it’s allowed”. These rules are so silly.

Atlanta has been linked to most shooting guard free agents this offseason, as the Hawks are looking for a backcourt partner for Trae Young to jumpstart their playoff hopes. Bogdanovic would play well both as a spacer next to Young and as a backup point guard when the third-year phenom is off the court. Atlanta would also be to fit a big offer for Bogdanovic into their cap space without a sign-and-trade, though they have plenty of young pieces similar to DiVincenzo to make such a deal possible.

A deal with the Lakers would be much more complicated given their lack of cap flexibility and would rely on Sacramento’s interest in taking Kyle Kuzma back, so the Hawks seem like a more realistic option.

The report in The Athletic also says to keep an eye on teams who are interested in pursuing Antetokounmpo next offseason bringing in Bogdanovic this year to pair the two. That would once again appear to include teams who don’t have the cap space to give Bogdanovic a big enough offer that the Kings wouldn’t match, but Sacramento has already telegraphed its lack of interest in a long-term Bogdanovic deal with the previous sign-and-trade.

We’ll see what happens when free agency officially begins.
