The Sacramento Kings’ search for a general manager continues. Hall of Famer Joe Dumars is helping with the search, and with the NBA playoffs rolling on, the new regime should be in place in the coming weeks.

One big decision facing the new management staff will be whether or not to re-sign forward Bogdan Bogdanovic. Former Kings general manager Vlade Divac was high on Bogi, as The Athletic’s Jason Jones wrote about in his recent mailbag:

The 28-year-old averaged 15.1 points and 3.4 assists while shooting 37.2% from the 3-point line. Head coach Luke Walton moved Bogdanovic into the starting lineup in late January in place of Buddy Hield. The move paid immediate dividends, as Sacramento went 13-7 over the next 20 games before the league shut down due to the pandemic.

Bogdanovic turned down a four-year deal worth just over $51 million during the season, so it won’t be surprising if the restricted free agent gets an offer in the $15 million per season range.

The new management group will have to decide if it’s worth keeping both Bogi and Hield, whose new four-year deal worth up to $106 million kicks in next season. Both are terrific outside shooters, but Bogdanovic was much better than Hield during the eight-game restart in the bubble.

Sacramento was 15.6 points better with Bogi on the floor than they were with Hield. Bogdanovic is the better playmaker of the two and Walton clearly thinks he is the better fit next to future All-Star De’Aaron Fox.

The Kings may decide to move on from both players and re-tool the roster rather than pay the duo roughly $40 million combined. It will be interesting to see how the new GM handles the personnel decision, but expect a lot of talk surrounding Bogdanovic and Hield in the offseason.
