Kings make a pair of clutch plays to beat Timberwolves

Buddy Hield and Damian Jones will have to fight over the game ball.

It’s not too often you give up 120 points in a game and win, but the Sacramento Kings did it for the sixth time this season on Wednesday with a 128-125 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Golden 1 Center. They’re now 6-24 when they give up at least 120 points this season.

The Kings were red hot on offense Wednesday night, shooting 58.1% from the field and 51.5% from 3-point range, the latter of which is a season-high for them. Three of their starters — De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Harrison Barnes — scored at least 20 points. Fox led the Kings with 30 points.

The defense, as you can imagine, was less stellar. The Kings allowed the Timberwolves to score 128 points on 52.9% from the field and 44.1% from deep, all of which are significantly higher than their season averages. The Kings were also careless with the ball, turning it over 14 times. The Timberwolves scored 23 points off of those turnovers.

None of those things ended up mattering, though, because of clutch 3-pointer from Buddy Hield and a game-saving block on Karl-Anthony Towns from Damian Jones. Yes, those are things that actually happened — it was incredible.

The Kings aren’t going to win many games from here on out, nor should they want to, so exciting games with positive results like Wednesday’s should be celebrated even if the process is bad. I mean, how often is Jones going to get a game-saving block on KAT? Seriously!
