The NBA offseason’s official start date hasn’t been announced yet, but we know the 2020 NBA Draft will take place on Nov. 18. The Sacramento Kings hold the No. 12 selection and could go multiple different ways with the pick.

Sacramento’s new general manager Monte McNair will make one of his first big moves with the pick, and it will give us some insight into which type of players he favors as he builds the roster.

Sam Vecenie of The Athletic released his latest mock draft and has the Kings taking 6’5 guard R.J. Hampton:

Vecenie adds that McNair — who worked under the tutelage of Daryl Morey with the Houston Rockets — might follow Morey’s blueprint and go for upside with the team’s draft picks.

Hampton, a five-star recruit coming out of high school — decided to skip college and join the New Zealand Breakers of the N.B.L. in Australia. His name surfaced in a scandal involving an agent, which may have led to his decision to go overseas.

The 19-year-old 8.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 29.5% from beyond-the-arc during his first year as a pro. Hampton will be a project and not a short-term solution for Sacramento. Scouts say he needs to work on his defense, shooting and getting stronger to impact the NBA player.
