There are no sure-fire prospects available in the 2020 NBA Draft. Without a Zion Williamson or Ja Morant, experts are torn on who will be the top selection. But some scouts believe it is a deep draft that will produce some quality NBA players beyond the top 10.

The Sacramento Kings hold the 12th pick and should be able to add a nice piece to their rotation. The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie released his latest mock draft and has the Kings taking 6’6 wing Aaron Nesmith of Vanderbilt:

Nesmith averaged 23 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season. According to The Stepien, Nesmith’s game is suited to be a 3-and-D guy in the NBA. He can score and finish plays, but is limited in his ability to create for others, as evidenced by his 0.9 assists per game.

Vecenie mentions that Sacramento will look for a wing at the draft, which is absolutely the right call. The Kings have Richaun Holmes at center, and if they bring back Alex Len, have a serviceable rotation at the five. The team couldn’t defend on the perimeter during their eight games in Orlando, so getting a player who can be very good defensively will help the Kings as they try to end their playoff drought.

Guys like Isaac Okoro, Saddiq Bey and Devin Vassell will also be good fits in Sacramento. The Kings have a logjam on the wings with Bogdan Bogdanovic, Harrison Barnes and Buddy Hield getting most of the minutes. None of the three are great defensively, with each of them finishing with a defensive rating over 110.

The new regime will look to make changes to the roster. I expect Bogi to be back next season, but Hield should be traded. Sacramento can get a younger, cheaper option who brings a different skillset that the team is sorely missing. With head coach Luke Walton back for next season, something has to give with Hield.
