Kings Pulse: Promising signs of growth from the back-to-back

Episode 300 of the Kings Pulse podcast!

It’s episode 300 of the Kings Pulse podcast! Quite the crazy marker to reach and it definitely does not feel like it’s been that many episodes but I can’t say thanks enough to everyone who has supported the pod throughout the journey to this point.

Anyways! This episode of the Kings Pulse podcast focuses on the back-to-back games that the Sacramento Kings just played on the road against the New Orleans Pelicans and then the San Antonio Spurs.

When it comes to the New Orleans showing, I express why that performance was so concerning to me given what we had seen countless times earlier this season. It was a product of the horrific shooting that this team currently has surrounding De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

A portion of the episode was spent acknowledging the fact that this roster needs more talent and what I think is the best way to do that this upcoming offseason.

Donte DiVincenzo has been more frustrating than I imagined on offense, but his defensive hustle, playmaking, and emphasis on doing the little things right have been much needed. The huge offensive rebound that he pulled down against the San Antonio Spurs in clutch time is a prime example of the winning plays he makes.

Heading into San Antonio, the Sacramento Kings needed to prove that they’re showing the night prior was an outlier. The situation was not made any easier by their complicated travel and delayed flight that I briefly explained.

Yet, the Kings went into San Antonio and showed some resilience as a squad — especially De’Aaron Fox and Harrison Barnes. Yes, they almost blew an 18-point lead but pulling through in the end is what matters and the Kings were able to weather the storm, get up, and fight back when needed in a way that was absent prior to the deadline.

I included post-game quotes from Harrison Barnes, Alvin Gentry, and De’Aaron Fox following the win over the Spurs regarding the resilience that this group was able to show as well as Fox’s recent stellar play and emergence as a vocal leader of late.

De’Aaron Fox continuing to improve both as a player and leader is extremely important for this team moving forward. Let’s hope he is able to keep this up over the final stretch of the 2021-22 NBA season.

Also covered in Episode 300 of the Kings Pulse podcast:

  • Why the end of this season is about more than wins and losses
  • Domantas Sabonis’ recent foul trouble
  • I think a top-4 pick is the best thing that can happen to this team
  • Upcoming brutal stretch in the schedule
  • Being appealing to potential offseason acquisitions
  • And plenty more!

Seems Kangz have 3 talents to build around and hope Donte, Davion and Holmes are at least assets ! The draft may get one more . Monte has a very difficult job ahead 🙏

Interesting quotes by both Gentry and Fox in the San Antonio postgame. Also been enjoying your stuff over at TKB with James too.

Not sure what you mean by growth? A one game sample size? A 30 pt beat down by the Pels, the night prior It looked like more of the same hapless Kings pre trade. Beating a rebuilding Spurs team by 2 pts is now considered Growth. I guess it make more
sense than Leo Beas thinking the Kings have the assets to trade for Bradley Beal in the offseason .

Lonnie Walker would look real nice in our backcourt at 23. Since ball hogging Derrick White was traded. Walker has been on Fire. He’s unrestricted. Wonder if the Spurs are
going to pull out the Brinks or let him test the market. All of sudden that Spurs backcourt is looking scary. Either way. Some team is going to pay him

Not sure what you mean by “sense than”? But I’m a huge fan of paragraphs. Thumbs up!

WTH is an ankle situation? Is it worse than an injury? Longer lasting?
Can it be treated?
