Stockton Kings head coach Bobby Jackson is leaving the organization to join Nick Nurse’s staff with the Philadelphia 76s, according to a report from the Athletic’s Shams Charania:
Bobby Jackson is joining the Philadelphia 76ers coaching staff under new coach Nick Nurse, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. A 12-year NBA vet and former Sixth Man of the Year, Jackson has been the coach of the Kings’ G League affiliate Stockton.

Bobby has been head coach of the Stockton Kings since May of 2021, but has been around the Kings coaching staff much longer. Jackson retired from playing in 2009, with his most notable portion of his playing career being his time as a 6th man for the glory-era Kings.
Bobby Jackson began his coaching career in 2011 as part of Paul Westphal’s staff for the Sacramento Kings. Michael Malone didn’t retain Jackson (or any assistants) after he took over after Westphal was fired. Jackson coached briefly in Minnesota, but eventually found his way back to Sacramento. Under Vlade Divac’s front office, Bobby held a variety of titles and roles, being involved with the front office and the coaching staffs. He was a rare coach who would stick around even through the revolving door of Sacramento coaches.
Bobby has done well with the Stockton Kings, with the team finishing the regular season in first place this past year.
Moving to Nurse’s staff gives Bobby more responsibility and more opportunity to advance his coaching career. Here’s to nothing but the best for B-Jax.
Congrats to one of my all-time fave Kings. Good luck, B-Jac!
Bobby rules!
Thanks Anjali.
Best wishes on your new opportunity, Bobby! Great player, great coach.
good luck B- Jax
Honest question: To what do you attribute Jackson’s ability to survive coaching purges?
I hope Bobby does great in Philly, I think he can learn (and unlearn) a lot of things from Nick Nurse.
Should be some decent prospects in Stockton come summer, I hope they hire the person who can turn them into NBA players.
I think if the answer to you’re question were #2, coach Jackson likely wouldn’t be headed to Philly.
Yeah, Bobby probably got to stick around due to his relationship with Vlade, but Bobby knows the game and has proven his ability to coach. Successful G League stints are often a step toward a key assistant role and then a head coaching role. Jordi went through the G League as a coach, so did the new Raptors coach, and a few other HCs around the league.
Relentless as a player, and as his success with the StocKings shows – he kept his feet planted and his mind stuck to learning the coaching game.
Hope he has continued success.
This is another feather in Sac’s success story season- Coach of the Year, Exec of the Year, Jordi Fernandez sparking Head Coach interest, now B-Jax getting a promotion to an East Conf powerhouse and Nick Nurse’s staff.
Can you remember a time when Sac’s front office had so many accolades?
Been a while, and too long a time coming.
This also bodes well for the near future.
Sorry the Stockton Kings ever moved from Reno (Bighorns) to Stockton…but best wishes, Bobby Jackson–a Kings legend.
Best of luck, coach, and thanks again for a great run while you were here!
