In true Sacramento Kings fashion of pushing rumors out about potential big deals and then not actually following through, it is being reported that Domantas Sabonis will remain with the team beyond tomorrow’s trade deadline, according to Sam Amick.
“All signs point to Sacramento big man Domantas Sabonis remaining in Sacramento past tomorrow’s deadline. Per team sources, the Kings view the prospect of sending him to the Toronto Raptors as flat-lined, so to speak.”
We have been hearing for quite some time now that the Kings and Raptors have been in talks about swapping Sabonis for RJ Barrett. That is all over, at least for now, according to Amick.
“The Raptors had shown strong interest in recent weeks, with the Kings looking to land RJ Barrett ($27.7 million this season; $29.6 million next season) in the deal while moving off of Sabonis’ hefty contract ($42.3 million this season, $45.4 million next season and $48.6 million in 2027-28). The deal would have required Raptors big man Jakob Poeltl to head elsewhere, with Memphis showing some interest after moving Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah, but the Raptors are reluctant to attach the necessary draft capital to make that necessary component happen. As such, it appears that this is a scenario that will be revisited by both sides in the offseason.”
This isn’t really surprising. This follows the pattern of what happens basically every trade deadline. Big rumors swirl around the Kings. What actually happens is underwhelming and doesn’t change much.
Of course, there is still time for more to happen. The next rumor is the one is around Ja Morant. We shall see.

I’d do Domas & Carter for Poeltl, Barrett and a couple 1sts. That Poeltl contract sucks but if you’re looking to get bad for 2-3 years so what? Get one first for Domas and 1 for taking on the bad contract.
They aren’t looking to be bad for 2-3 years. They want to start “competing” again next year. They added Hunter, they want RJ (Domas is the means for getting RJ).
If they are interested in Ja, then that further cements that they are not serious about a rebuild.
Bringing in Ja would be the most idiotic move this franchise could make. You have a decent young core at the moment and you’re about to add a rookie with all the potential to be a franchise player.
why would you want Ja around that? Especially when he’s made it clear he wouldn’t be happy coming to Sacramento to play?
At best I think it would be a giant middle finger to the fan base.
I agree, they aren’t looking to rebuild. We will continue to shuffle deck chairs.
Sell the Team!
They are Fucking idiots. Vivek blinded by his ego. Such an opportunity to get a high pick and build.
Fuck you Vivek. Sell
Yes. I agree. I posted something similar to this in the pod cast chat yesterday.
1 unprotected for Domas and one unprotected for taking back Poeltl. If healthy he’s a solid big man in your locked in 3 big rotation for the next two seasons at the very least (Cardwell and Max). Concentrate on bringing in players at other positions.
BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT over the next 4 seasons. Poeltl expires right when you need an extra 28 million to bring in a missing piece game changer free agent.
A HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
“Flat-lined.” Vivek fucking flat-lined this team last season.
#SellTheTeam(YouFuckingAsshole).
username checks out
Kings get :
Rui Hachimura – expiring
Gabe Vincent – expiring
Max Kleber – expiring
Jake LaRavia – 1 year remaining
Dalton Knecht – 2 years remaining
Lakers 2026 1st round pick unprotected
Lakers 2028 1st round pick top 10 protected
Lakers get :
Damontis Sabonis
Doug McDermott
Drew Eubanks
Russel Westbrook
For the record, I don’t see why the Lakers wouldn’t do this deal. It makes them significantly better for what looks like LBJ’s last year in LA. When he leaves at the end of the year you have a huge amount of money to spend in free agency to team up with Luka, Domas and Reeves.
personally I think that’s pretty damn solid for the yellow team now and into the future.
Translation: The Kings have no on of value that any team is willing to give up assets for.
I feel the starting lineup of Russ, LaVine, DDR, Precious, and Domas will be going strong past the deadline.
Speaking of Precious, he has to have some value as a vet minimum expiring to a contender out there. Even a protected 2nd would be fine by me.
The Kings probably want a 1st for him, haha!!!
I got bad news for you: Precious is a bad basketball player. He’s not worth a second.
Why not just keep Domas? He’s 29. He’ll be 31 or 32 next time the Kings have a chance to be good. This year’s team will get a top 6 pick. Next year’s team might get lucky in the lottery or have a good player drop to their draft position. If, by some miracle, they draft Darren Peterson, the point guard problem is solved. Having a front court of Sabonis, Murray and McDaniel with Raynaud and Cardwell as rotation players plus what they decide to keep from the glut of 2 guards, the team might be able to do something.
One problem is that Domas is a floor raiser. Difficult to get a top pick with him healthy and playing.
And there is no way we have a chance to be good in 1-2 years. 3-5 if we’re lucky and Vivek focuses on his volleyball league.
The starting line up Wednesday had one, possibly two hall of famers and four all stars, and they couldn’t beat a depleted Memphis team that was already a losing team. Five years of that?–worst case scenario.
LOL, ok. CP3 is a Raptor now. The Agbaji inclusion has me thinking the Sabonis to the Raps is officially dead.
Rumours of the Apron rules killing trade deadline moves have been greatly exaggerated!
And we still have 23 hours to go!
Why does it feel like we were trying to trade Domas to get a first, then use that first to trade Lavine? Neither is going to happen. And we’re not buying out DeRozan. Bout to rip off a fat win streak and make the play-in.
TLDR: KANGZ (that’s showbiz baby)
Has there ever been a team this old, in last place, that ended the deadline with the same starting 5, while also adding guaranteed money to its bench?
How about Sabonis and Carter to the Magic for Suggs, Black and Howard. Money just even. Suggs has a contract for 5 years at 35mil per year but is only 24 and plays those 5 years with the Kings.Black is you starting point guard of the future. Now you can go after Dybansta or Boozer. Howard as of now a filler but has potential. Worth a try.
Do you have beef to grind against Orlando, Jack? All of your trade proposals seem to be between Sac and Orl LOL
Cut Jack some slack, he’s trying to upgrade us from CHI West to ORL West. That’s more than Vivek or Perry have done to improve this team!
Superteam, just old…and expensive…and sucky.
So Jarad McCain — someone we passed on — ends up fetching a first-round pick and two second-rounders. Meanwhile, we draft Devin Carter, who nobody wants (understandably).
We suck at trading. We suck at drafting. We suck at basketball ownership.
But you know what we don’t suck at? Fandom.
We are elite fans. Or deeply delusional fans who need psychiatric help.
Honestly… still not sure which one.
How about Sabonis for just Suggs and Black and a first?
I would rather have Suggs and Black, and I think the Magic would too.
One more: Sabonis and Carter to the Bulls for Zach Collins ( expiring) Issac Okoro Jaden Ivey and Oussmane Dieng and a first.
Not a deal I like.
yes if we could get it… but Orlando’s strength is front court players
Anyone else scratching their head on OKC taking on Jared McCain’s guaranteed deal from Philly? I get that he’s a solid prospect, but OKC is loaded at the guard position and now stands to be around $25M into the 2nd apron next season, and that doesn’t take into consideration the 2 first round picks they have.
Are they not going to pick up the team options on Hartenstein and Dort?
So OKC just purchased the draft rights to 7’1″ center Balsa Koprivica from Serbia. The 25 year old was drafted in the 2nd round in 2021. Why would OKC use cash considerations for a dude who hasn’t played in the NBA?
Presti is up to something.
“There hasn’t been any indication that Koprivica is considering coming to the NBA. However, his draft rights could be a minor trade chip for OKC to use in a deal down the road, especially if the team is operating over the second apron in a future season and isn’t eligible to trade cash that year.”
OKC really likes to have a lot of young options and they have no problem flipping them for future assets. I think they understand the odds on picks turning into studs are low, so keep trying until you hit a gem. I don’t hate it.
Lonzo going to Utah, expected to be waived or bought (whichever, they just dont want him). If Perry signs Lonzo to reform the trio of Ball, DDR and Lavine, I will be done with this team.
Remind me why Christie chose to run the last 1.5 seasons of play through DeRozan instead of Sabonis? Team is fun when Sabonis gets 40% usage. I’ll take a fun team next year over a failed rebuild.
Nobody knows why, Casey. Kings do some weird stuff.
Maybe it’s for the best since it helps losing . Domas as the hub makes others better and happier and would hurt the tank . Keegan and Domas injuries have been very valuable if the FO doesn’t blow the draft . I know , hope is bad .
Report: Local Man’s Fandom Likely Remaining in Sacramento Past Sanity Deadline
Just fretting seeing a red banner reading “Ja Morant is a King” each time I come into this site…
Noworry ain’t gonna happen.
Last trade but not the least. DeRozan Carter and 2 second round picks for RJ Barrett. DeRozan goes back where he started. Maybe a little sentimental for the Raptors.
He’s in Sac tonight with the Grizzlies….
Get your 1st round picks and go acquire Poetl and Barrett. Its not that hard. Go secure the 14% chance for the top pick preferably the worst record. This team needs a franchise cornerstone player. Gosh Perry is incompetent.
I don’t think Toronto is offering any 1st round picks. That’s the issue.
Sacramento Kings basketball! “We still have this summer!”
Out of left field. Dubs must be out of the Giannis race.
After this, I wouldn’t be surprised if Giannis doesn’t end up getting traded by tomorrow.
If I had to guess, Giannis is in Minny by tomorrow, but shit has been weird today.
And I’m gonna double-down and say so will Westbrook.

Well, I think this is the nail in the coffin of Sabonis to the Raps.
I get the feeling we’ve all given up hope for a good trade and are just eager for the clock to run out on the trade deadline so that Perryvek doesn’t do anything else stupid. That’s very definitely where I’m at, anyway.
Who needs hope anyway? Hope leads to expectations and expectations lead to disappointment.
That should be the next Perryism posted to social media.
