I am so zen about this season. I watch these Buddy air balls, CoJo’s make-a-wish minutes, Whiteside pickpockets, Marvin blown defensive assignments and smile. Thinking, of the incredible trade deadline and offseason that awaits us where we bring in an entirely new coaching staff and set of young prospects built around Fox-Hali-Bagley. A full year more of development for Guy, Ramsay, DaQuan, Woodard, Metu all ready to step up once Joseph, Buddy, Barnes, Bjelica, and Holmes are jettisoned within the next year. Trying to figure out just which player among this year’s top 5 is gonna fall to us if we go at this rate. Oh yes, keep the bricks coming. It’s just the receding before the tide swells again. ….right?

You know what came to mind today? After getting destroyed in the bubble, Luke Walton saying two or three times we just gotta get some stops, and I also remembered how he says he wants a switching defense like the Warriors had. It would be ironic if he won’t play his 5 switchable defenders together (Fox, Haliburton, Jeffries, Barnes, Holmes)
Or just go full Grinnell system if you want to play defense like this

(2) Bagley gives Barrett a wide open lane for a layup (everybody should see that one), and (3) same predictable move, Bagley offensive charge. Thanks for the comedy. That’s all I need to watch for the night.

Yeah, poor communication between him and barnes there. See he sealed off his man looking for a rebound? Looks like he expected holmes to rotate over, which was the wrong idea since someone has to stop ball.
Let’s not sugarcoat it. It was an embarassingly braindead play by Bagley. He’s improving here and there, but he’s the anti-Tyrese as far as BBIQ goes.

I’d say minimum 2 years. Only hope for the rest of this season is him finding a way to shed CoJo, Bjelica, and Buddy somehow. Follow that up by firing Luke after the year and letting Monte find his HC
Fox/Haliburton/Holmes/Jeffries are the only players I care about keeping. The stigma around Bagley will always remain while he’s here and I just can’t ever see him figuring things out defensively. A big who is that terrible on defense is just unplayable

I’m actually shocked waking up every day to see Walton’s still coaching.
Commentators saying offense isn’t the problem.
Clutch offense is a big problem. Playing catch-up doesn’t mean the Kings offense is clicking.
It isn’t the personnel. It’s the coaching and system. Poor defensive communication. Poor and inconsistent rotations. Poor on ball defense. It’s almost like some guys are playing help rotations, some guys playing stick your man. Just so uncohessive.

You’re just leaving the players blameless because it sure is convenient to just be able to replace the coach and everything will be golden.
Much easier to reconcile that with the more painstaking process of improving a bad roster and coming to the realization that one of the young cornerstones isn’t all that.

I think there’s a difference between having 2nd tier players who aren’t great and put out a poor, even league-worst, defense and putting out a defense that is so bad it that it approaches an historic level of defensive ineptitude.
Unless we have assembled collectively the worst defensive players in NBA history (possible but statistically unlikely) it seems to point at a lack of preparation, game planning and effort resulting from bad leadership/coaching that take a group that is bad and propels them to worst.
I’ve watched the NBA since the early 1970s.
It is very possible that we’ve assembled one of the worst defensive NBA teams in history. Many of them don’t have the knowledge and/or the skills to play the defense required in the league now.
I’m not saying the roster doesn’t have it’s holes but that it’s massively underperforming with the talent it does have and that comes down to the coach leading the team.
Looking towards the future…
Went on YouTube to check on the Austin Spurs and Robert Woodard II. They were down 23 in the first half and came back to take it in overtime. Woodard finished with 28 points, 17 boards, and 3 steals. Many of his points came late in the game and in crunch time, which seems to be a theme this far. I know it’s G League, but he looks solid.
Ramsey is also starting to play better in what I’ve been able to see.
