Kings vs Celtics Preview: Beam Team in Beantown

The two best offenses in the NBA square off and I can’t believe I’m writing that sentence in reference to the Sacramento Kings.
    By | 10 Comments | Nov 25, 2022

The Sacramento Kings are in Boston today and looking to shake off the hangover of Wednesday’s loss to Memphis. Has the tryptophan worked out of your system yet? Have the relatives that asked you to explain Kyrie Irving and Jaylen Brown left yet, or at least shut up in favor of perusing InfoWars in peace? No? ME NEITHER!

    Let’s talk Kings basketball!

When: Friday, November 25th, 2022, 5:00 PM PT
    Where: TD Garden, Boston, MA
    TV: NBC Sports California
    Radio: Sactown Sports 1140

    For Your Consideration

Black Friday Spiels: Well we all knew it was going to end at some point, but damn that seven game streak was fun. That’s a streak they’ll write songs about during a future championship run – the first time Kings fans felt hope. For now, though, Wednesday night’s loss is all we can sing about until the next winning streak starts. Wednesday night – that’s the night that the light went out, thanks Georgia. That’s the night that they lost a winnable game… Okay no more Reba for the rest of the preview.

The Kings can start anew tonight, it’ll just take beating the best team in the Eastern Conference and arguably the best team in the NBA to start off the season’s first 20 games. This Celtics squad had every excuse to take the first 60 games off, hell the whole year off. With a coach that was seemingly the heart and soul of the Celtics new found identity and a big reason to their post season success, suddenly suspended for the season, the Celtics could have easily spent the year pouting. Combine that with Jaylen Brown’s insistence on throwing in and then backing out of any and all Kyrie Irving drama – it would be enough for most teams to drag their feet to start.

And yet, here there are, sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference, the second best scoring team in the NBA (behind only the Kings) with the most efficient offense (swapping places with Sacramento after Wednesday night’s loss). Jayson Tatum is an early candidate for MVP, Joe Mazzulla coaching a team that really isn’t is and the team has won 10 out of their last 11 games. If you’re tuning in expecting a fun romp that rolls into a bunch of Beam Team memes, you might want to go back to talking politics with that cousin whose always turning conversations into about how much his trucks tires cost.

I don’t have that much for you today. This is the two best offenses going head to head the day after Thanksgiving. There’s bound to be some sloppiness early and some recovery in the second half and in previous years, we could have written this one as a scheduled blowout. But, I beamlieve in this team, if not to win, then to at least make it a fight to the finish.

Alright, enjoy the game and this weekend everyone. See you Monday!

    Prediction

Tony smuggles a bunch of purple Amazon lasers glued to a shoe box into and on top of TD Garden and terrorizes the fans and entire town with a faint purple shaft of light after a De’Aaron Fox game-winning, buzzer beating three.

    Kings: 127, Celtics:124

In Boston the Celtics keep rolling
    With an interim coach controlling.
    It’s Smart, Tatum and Brown
    Looking for their first crown.
    We’ll need tough defensive patrolling!

There’s bound to be some sloppiness early

I will be a happy Kings fan if the Kings fight hard all game long, play tough D, and share the ball on offense. I don’t expect a win. But I would be thrilled if that happened.

I think this is a trap game for the Celtics.

I’m hoping they are a little slowed down from having home cooked Thanksgiving day meals and the Kings play angry to have to be on the road for the holiday.

This is going to be a real test tonight. The DPOY defending Fox, Tatum and Brown playing like All-NBA players, and Horford seems to defy father time. Tough matchups all across the board. I don’t have a lot of hope tonight, but I do want to see the Kings continue to raise some eyebrows. Also hoping to see Murray break out of his slump.

An aside, as good as this Celtics team looks, they may get real scary if/when the Time Lord returns. They are 14-4 while missing their starting big man.

I’m hoping the Kings can get Sabonis alot of shots inside early. That’s the most effective strategy I can think of to give the Kings a real chance.

Not a fan of the political cherry picking in the preview. I get we’re a California team, but sheesh.
