I don’t think he’s earnestly trying to build a winning team. It’s more bragging rights of having a team. The real prize was team valuation, operating the arena, and prime property.
Bragging rights for having the worst team/franchise ever in pro sports? Team valuation okay sure. Operating an arena at a loss? Downtown Sacramento prime property where you can’t lease out your surrounding shopping mall development?

If monte does a trade, vivek kills the tank for the rest of the season. If monte doesnt make a trade, vivek thinks the team is competitive and no tank. End result, another non premier draft slot.
Kings should get whatever assets they can for Barnes/Buddy, and tank the rest of the season.
But nobody wants Barnes and Buddy because they’re contracts are way overvalued and they suck.

The already sent Granger out here to have an adult in the room (even if he was on the business side). Matina shanked him and pushed him out. so I don’t think the NBA is itching to send another person out here to prop up their most ineffective owner. Vivek has a ton of equity from his purchase price, but in a small market and with what they’ve done to the season ticket holder base the year to year fiscal losses put him on a much shorter clock than most here realize. They are going to lose a ton of money this year. On track to dig into more cash to loose an ton next year.
For years, the Kings haven’t even tried hard enough to win many games. In every other city, you make a few mediocre hires or bottom out to get back to ok. Vivek refuses do that. Instead, it’s alway dysfunction with nostalgia sprinkled on top. Now they are thinking about trading lightly protected 1st seeking to — again— skip steps in the ordinary process. Terrible team trading 1st is malpractice. Basketball 3.0
