In a rather anticlimactic conclusion, the Sacramento Kings have presumably ended their participation in the 2022 NBA Draft by trading the 37th overall pick.
The Kings are trading No. 37 to the Mavericks for two future second-round picks, source tells ESPN. Dallas is focused on Jaden Hardy with pick.

We’ve yet to get clarification on the specifics of the picks the Kings got in return, but future second round picks generally hold very little value.
The Kings started the day with two second round picks, but traded the 49th pick earlier today.
Monte McNair will address the media at 10 PM PT.
Good to know this is still a thing.
Cash Considerations are alive and well! Teams who are run this way will never do anything positive ever. EVER.
This wasn’t a trade for cash considerations though
I mean, the other trade was and are we positive there’s no cash coming back in this trade? I guess we’ll see but would it really surprise you?
I mean not really if you look at the crux of the trade. It was Vezenkov and $1.75 million right?. The thing is Vezenkov’s buyout offer is a little over 1 million. They will also probably have some other costs when it comes to him.
“At the moment, Vezenkov’s mind isn’t 100% on the NBA. He believes he has things to improve. He doesn’t want to go to the NBA for the sake of going. He wants to have an important role. However, this could change if the Kings talk with him, but it doesn’t look easy. There is a buyout which is slightly above one million and the Kings would have to pay it. It looks more likely that it’s going to happen next year.”
So essentially they traded the #37 pick for a guy who is probably a 1st rounder this year and the money for his buyout if they can bring him over this year.
There are a not-inconsiderable number of tropes that users love: Cash considerations, can they play small forward, Zach Randolph if someone uses the word blunt or grass, dismissive little chap, and I could go on. It may have created the sense that any of them can be thrown at any topic, because Kangz.
No one loves a good callback better than I, but it’d be kind of neat if they made sense a bit more often.
How does a team with the worst talent in the league think they can pass on any talent.
And how is it possible they have no salary cap space?
An embarrassment in every way,
I think the Kings are at 15 players if you count DDV, Queta & the Euro, so I get it? Would have preferred Liddell or Ellis, though.
Yeah, I would have snagged Liddell. At worst you give him a two-way contract. I don’t like this move by Monte.
IMO, that Euro dude isn’t coming over for a two-way deal. Am I supposed to believe the Kings are gonna find a better two-way player on a camp invite than they could have at #37? Color me confused.
Any idea if they can just sign the Euro to an actual roster deal? Roster number wise? Think I saw he was only making like 1 million a year. 2-3 year deal for about 6-8 million? Team option somewhere.
If that’s a plan this makes a bit more sense. Seems unlikely though. Dunno
The issue with signing Vezenkov to a 6-8 million dollar deal is you have to use the NT MLE to do so. Which uses up that tool to sign a guy who was in the 2nd round and for whom you traded a 49th overall pick for. That is the very definition of bad asset management.
I could see the Kings using the Bi Annual exception on Vezenkov in part because they can buy him out of his deal with Olympiacos and at the same time if they use any part of the Mid Level on Vezenkov they can’t use it on a player they plan on bringing in the here and now.
Plus Vezenkov will be 27 at the start of the upcoming season, his leverage isn’t super high on this one.
I know the BAE will probably end up a bit higher than this, but this is what a Bi Annual deal on Vezenkov would look like:
Year 1: 3,767,920M
Year 2: 3,956,316M
At that point, if you wish to resign him, you have Early Bird rights like the Kings did with Richaun Holmes.
I’m with you, after thirty-six, I was in a good mood, because we had the opportunity to snag Liddell, or even Hardy. Both seem like decent bets to be contributors in the NBA, so the move, based on what I know, is disappointing.
Unless we’re throwing a pile of second-rounders at someone in order to facilitate getting a quality asset, but that’s a leap, and I’ve nothing to support it.
By my count, the Kings have 9 guys with guaranteed deals: Fox, Sabonis, Barnes, Holmes, Holiday, Mitchell, Harkless, Davis and Len.
Two guys with team options: Lyles and Metu.
DDV is a RFA. And Lamb and Jackson are UFAs, too, but that doesn’t matter. What matters here is while they have cap holds, they aren’t currently taking up roster spots. Although I am expecting the Kings will resign DDV and they are likely holding a roster spot as a result.
Keegan Murray now will occupy a roster spot as soon as they sign him to a deal.
TWC’s like Queta and now Ellis do not count towards the 15 total roster spots.
Keep in mind during the offseason, your roster spots go up to 20. So I don’t think passing on the 37 was as much a roster crunch as much as they didn’t really want a player they had available to them at 37. Especially if that player wasn’t willing to sign a TWC.
The other possibility is they have trades in mind as July will be here in a week. So you could end up with a 4 players for 1 deal in theory that could use extra roster spots.
Either way, I think the most likely possibility on trading the 37 was that there wasn’t a player they wanted to commit to. Which, as it always does in these things, is a matter of opinion.
Today was underwhelming to say the least. Expected much more action. Feels like the same ol Kangz!!
Some kangz don’t change.
I had too much faith in Monte.
I think they drafted the BPA, so I’d say they did well w/#4.
Hopefully, I’ll be excited by the time the California Classic comes around lol
Kangz make me so sad. As a State Worker living in the Bay, it eats my soul
State worker (sh*t pay)
King’s fan
Live in the expensive bay area
I feel bad for you.
Just when you have a glimpse of hope to maybe find some talent at 37, it slips away. I hope this isn’t another Gary Trent situation…
Trent was one example
Woodard for Tillman was another
and there was one more
selling the pick that became Kenyon Martin
Yeah there have been too many examples in recent years for a team that still lacks consistent talent.

Breaking News
Hardy all looks like TD , He can be TD replacement (other than very similar looking, similar height and can drive into lane)
I think we should keep that pick and get Hardy.
I’m not defending trading the pick, but for what Davis makes, why use 37 to add a redundant player?
At least you know TD can play in the NBA, too. It’s often opportunity cost I’ve found. For Dallas who is going to be well over the luxury tax, and maybe doesn’t have any inclination to use their mid level otherwise, trading for a guy like Jaden Hardy makes plenty of sense. But for Sacramento where they can use their mid level on a guy like that, they are stuck using either the Bi Annual or the minimum 2 year salary on a guy like that. I can see why that isn’t all that appealing under the circumstances.
Acquire assets on a team with very few would be a thought. Like most well run teams do.
THIS MOVE PUTS US:
*Two Second-Rounders ahead
This picture is offensive and the moderators should remove it. He is typical of “I think I am the smartest guy in the room” syndrome. He may be when it comes to software, but having success with your daughter’s high school team does not translate to a lot more.
12 year old girls team . Even worse but who counting .????
Bang the phones! Invites for Hyunjung Lee, Tevin Brown, and Orlando Robinson!
Hi! I’m Ellis5….. So quick … so easy
That’s a nice add. Would have been happy with him at 37. This is even better.
McGenius-ed
From the speed of the announcement they must have had a principle deal in place. But what if someone else had drafted him in the second round?
It makes me wonder if there are promises made for second rounders and the Kings knew he didn’t have one so might as well trade the #37 and sign him to a two-way as an undrafted player. Anything other than that seems risky.
No idea if that’s true, but it provides some logic for the trade. Love that we’ve got Ellis coming to camp.
Ellis was on the second round list
suspect that the Bulgarian will come as #15
Jaden Hardy a top five candidate early in the year but screwed up badly in G Leaue- could not shoot, turned ball over
but there were a few guys there like Lidell who might have helped
Kings do have a few “final year” guys who can still be moved

NBA Comparison: James EnnisStrengths: Ellis is a wiry, 6’6, 167 pound SG with adequate length and very good vertical athleticism … Has the foot speed, lateral quickness and explosive leaping ability that only helps the case for his projections on the wing at the NBA level … Runs like a deer in the open court and is a good finisher at the rim, where his leaping skills shine the most … A backdoor alley-oop threat … Possesses quick and active hands (nearly 2 steals a game as a Sr.); is really a pest as an on-ball defender…A loose ball-handlers nightmare, Ellis pressures the ball and moves his feet well to be effective at both denying dribble penetration and generating deflections…Can guard anywhere on the perimeter…Good shooting stroke from long range with his feet set (37% 3FG); has a quick, high release and consistent mechanics…Also had some success shooting off screens and running to open spots in live ball action last season…Has the makings of a 3-and-D type prospect…Uses his quick leaping skills to contribute on the glass (6.1 rpg as a Sr.)…Led the SEC in FT% at 88%, further showing his shooting touch
He’s a very interesting prospect, good shooter, and efficient to boot. He may have the length to defend wings. and you can never have too much of that.
Watching ESPN, and there was a fair amount of crying at this draft. When was the last time you saw a superstar cry when his name was called? Nothing wrong with crying, but I like that Keegan wasn’t crying. I think he’s got a quiet confidence and a chip on his shoulder and I like that. Bilas liked the pick, 50 dunks, 50 3’s.
I’m here to rate the TKH draft lottery forum… And I have to say it was garbage. 100% could not navigate between idiots faster than I could get dropped by the sight.
Same.
I would have asked McNair about trading the higher of the two 2nd round picks. CBS Sports instantly gave us an “A+” for taking Jaden Hardy, then we turn that into two 2nd rounders with dubious value. Hardy was mostly projected as a FIRST round choice, so Dallas might have got a steal from us. We’ll see in a couple of years, but in any case, they better have a damn good reason. As others have pointed out, trading away a pick for Woodard did not work — Tillman plays for a good Memphis team.
McNair totally failed the team! Sabonis gave us a lucky roll of the dice, and McNair didn’t press our advantage at 4, and gave a player(37) who was expected to go in the top half of the 1st round for nothing. I was really up for this Draft, and hoped the team would do well after signing Coach Brown. With Brown I really felt we had turned the corner, but after tonight I’m not so sure. Signing Ellis to a two way was a pretty good pick up, but giving up an arguable mid 1st for nothing was reprehensible. I say for nothing because Dallas is going to be a top team for the foreseable future, which means those two 2nds will be worthless. Jaden Hardy had a rough year in the G League, but we weren’t to rolll the dice and see if he can get it together. My guess is that with the Kangz luck he’ll become a solid player. McNair has a lonng way to go to prove to me that he should still be running this team.
I don’t know how Ivey will do in his career, but his mom is fine as hell, and it was a real mistake passing on him, when his ma could have been here for all of his games.
Dammit, Andy.
I thought the same thing, but didn’t want to say it out loud.
Guess we’d better see if she has a Twitter account.
I might be wrong, but I’m guessing Notre Dame would somewhat be opposed to their women’s head coach taking a lot of time off to go watch her son play in the NBA.
You were noticing her dress?
If he is not as good as Murray how is it a mistake passing on him ?
I like the Murray pick but hate trade to Dallas of 37 and Hardy. He was a top 5 HS All America and great risk to take . Afraid this will be another Kings give away like Gary Trent . Monte is on the clock . .
Anybody remember Isaiah Thomas at #59? Turned out to be another great player…who the Kings let go.
