DeMarcus Cousins recently shared his thoughts on the state of his former team, the Sacramento Kings.
“It’s bad, it’s been bad, it’s probably going to continue to be bad unless some things change at the top. I don’t know what else to say, I can’t sugarcoat it,” he said.
Certainly not sugarcoating it there.
“I can’t say too much because I’m the ‘bitter ex’, but the facts are the facts.”@boogiecousins says Kings fans “stick with you through thick and thin” which is why their arena’s still full after 20 years of losing ????

He then complimented the Kings fans.
“The Kings have a great fan base. That’s it. I love the Kings fan base. That’s a real fan base to me. They go through thick and thin. … They stick with you through thick and thin. Obviously, they are good fans. It’s been 20 years of losing and they’re still filling the building up. So, it shows you how much support these fans have for this team. All they are looking for is a winning product. And I still follow a lot of Kings pages and things like that. There’s a lot of outrage and deservingly so, but I can’t say too much because I’m the bitter ex, but the facts are the facts,” Cousins said.
Cousins also stated that he thinks the Kings should have started the rebuild when they traded De’Aaron Fox.
Yes, the fans are great, which is why we are all on this website and all over social media expressing what seems to be never-ending concern about the direction of the team. With the season quickly already looking like its over (and it was looking like it was over even before it began), and fans increasingly growing impatient and apathetic, one has to wonder how much more they can take.
And if things will actually change…

The man is honest to a fault at times, this is not one of those times however. 100% accurate
“And I still follow a lot of Kings pages and things like that.”
I take this to mean he’s been lurking here (and reddit).
No lies told. Boogie is correct.
Interestingly enough, I consider the Boogie trade the one and only time the Kings have attempted a rebuild. They traded the far superior talent for a rookie prospect, a 1st round pick, and filler. We can rationalize the reasons for the trade, be it DMC’s persona, his contract status, or Vivek’s infatuation with Buddy, but it is the kind of rebuild move the Kings need to make in bunches right now.
But even that trade was done long after it should have been when Cuz’ value was much higher. If I remember correctly, the lakers were offering quite a bit a year or two prior to when he was actually traded.
Good take Cuz!
And no Vivek that doesn’t mean he should be our next head coach or GM or backup center! Sell the team!
#SellTheTeam.
Have you all seen this?
I signed it.
‘SELL THE TEAM’ chants at the end of every loss!
Kings fans are easy to please. They want players that give effort, play hard, don’t cause problems, and compete every night. It’s the reason they remember guys like Michael Smith, Jon Barry, B-Jax, Doug, IT, etc.
One of the main problems with the current roster (and there are many!), is that some of the players have no connection to the fans or the city. They were brought in to be mercenaries, rentals, assets just to be dealt in the future. They don’t represent us, they don’t represent the city, they haven’t been through the “shit” with us.
100%. I dropped that mercenary term a few days back. It took me a while to figure out why I just don’t like the team, and that’s the reason. Give me a team of homegrown lovable losers any day of the week over a team of ex-all-star mercenary losers. Give me hope and aspiration over worn and indifferent. There is just no connection between the majority of the dudes on this roster and the fanbase/city.
It goes into a bigger issue I have with the NBA (and MLB/NFL) is that there is so much player movement now, that the connection with fans/players/team is weaker and weaker. There are some outliers that stay with their teams for a long period of time (Steph, Giannis, Jokic, etc.), but these guys get moved in and out too damn often.
Agreed. The organization traded the guy that may have been destined to become the Sacramento GOAT, and for what? To get out of his next contract? Because they tried to kneecap him in the media and it backfired on them? This was the singular move that proved to me that Vivek Ranadive does not give one shit about the fans of his team.
DMC, exhibit A for why this organization should not deal for Ja Morant.
Different guys, different issues, but both head cases in their own right.
Not interested in DMC- Special Guard Unit!
Ja Marcus Cousins?

Ja Moron
Big Cuz is stating the obvious that everyone and their mom can see that the only path forward for this franchise is a rebuild.
vivek has been in denial for so long but seems like he may be coming around to it,
finally and hopefully.
Please trade all the vets and load up on picks however you can, and especially in the 2026 draft. The rebuild could be quick and extremely fun and entertaining if you land a top 3 pick in the upcoming draft.
We already have good young pieces to build around (KM, Devin lol, Keon, Nique, Maxx).
Trading all those vets will land some solid young complementary players as well. Pair that with a top 3 potential franchise player in this draft and you are on to something.
I just got a bit sick looking at Tankathon and realized that the Thunder currently have two top10 picks headed their way. They are going to dominate for a decade or more. Still, they are gong to have make some moves as their $40M+ extension for Chet and Jalen kick in next season and a $60M per year extension kicks in for SGA the season after.
OKC have their big 3 locked up but are now going to have to finagle the apron rules with all those draft picks and extensions coming in. I wonder if their trade of the first round pick, that became Nique, is their path forward. Just kick the asset cans down the road to use them when you need them rather than just continue to draft.
I could see Caruso and Hartenstein being sent away in the offseason for some cheaper players back. They currently have $246m on the payroll for next season, and $216m in the 27-28 season. They could find players in the draft to replace them and keep the cheaper contracts rolling in for years.
They just have so many ways to make the money work and keep getting talent to replace them.
I’ve said before that the Hartenstein contract was made to be moved. $28M with a TO next season. I could see them moving him along with a pick or two for a young rookie scaled big and just keep the youth movement rolling.
I don’t know if anyone will take Caruso off of their hands, other than another contender. He’s got 3 more years at $20M per and will be 32 come spring. He’s great from them at the moment, but may be in the way a year or two from now.
I wouldn’t mind taking Topic or Dieng off of their hands. Kick those tires and see if they can become NBA players.
Yep. They will use these picks to backfill the roster for the next decade. Pay their big three and cultivate the rest. And if one of the youngsters hits, they can trade out of their big three for more future assets. They are really perfectly set up for the long haul, and Houston is kind of replicating what OKC has done, as is, to a lesser extent, San Antonio. The West will never not be a buzzsaw.
Topic was diagnosed with testicular cancer, I would avoid that. Who knows how well he would play after that. But I like the idea of getting those younger guys to Sacramento.
Doing this one handed just isn’t the same
That’s why he’d be a buy low risk. OKC has another $5M owed to him next year then a TO after that. He’s likely not cracking their guard rotation, even if healthy. Offer expirings (Saric?) and see if Presti listens.
Fits in nicely with Kings…no balls. Just kidding speedy recovery bro
I’ve said some negative things about DMC and the era when he was a King, mainly I didn’t like all the antics about the officiating. But Boogie was dominant on the court and I always wanted him to succeed as a King. I liked him more off the court, he seemed pretty cool. And sometimes you need a few crazy on the court guys to win.
Love these comments about the fanbase and the rest of the stuff about ownership is very obvious and needs to get spread everywhere until Vivek gets it and gets lost.
DeMarcus Cousins the talent – prodigious. All-NBA. DMC off court was often out in the community and putting his celebrity to positive causes.
Boogie Cousins the on court behavior – difficult to watch or cheer.
How he was with coaches and some fans and the officials had me happy to see him go. It was never about his basketball talent, which was unique and special. Injuries took his career too early. It sounds like he’s matured and that is a wonderful thing to see and hear. Who of us is what we were in our 20s? That’s a win.
It was roughly five months ago that he was tossed out of basketball in Puerto Rico after grabbing his nuts and then going after a fan.

It’s all on video, and it’s just short of the Ron Artest in Indiana situation.
Yeah, but who of us is what we were in our mid 30s?
