Corey Brewer says he signed with Kings because he feels ‘comfortable’ in Sacramento

This is what Vlade meant when said the Kings can be a marquee free agent destination.

Corey Brewer is headed back to Sacramento, or should I say: he’s going to be joining Sacramento in Orlando. According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic on Monday, the Kings plan on signing Brewer with their 15th and final roster spot when the NBA’s transaction window opens tomorrow, June 23.

Brewer played 24 games with the Kings during the 2018-19 season, and while that’s not an especially long time for a player to spend with a team, the Kings left enough of an impression on Brewer during that brief to lure him back to Sacramento for a second, more meaningful stint.

In an interview with Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston, Brewer said he chose the Kings over the other teams that were pursuing him because he felt comfortable with the roster and the team’s new head coach, Luke Walton. Brewer also expressed his excitement for the season to restart.

Brewer might not play a ton with the depth the Kings have, but he’s a guy that Walton can plug in at multiple positions and lean on when the team needs a boost of energy. Brewer isn’t the most skilled player on the roster, but he can be depended on to play with a ton of energy on a consistent basis. He’s also a capable defender, which certainly doesn’t hurt. The Kings are ranked 18th in the defensive efficiency.

Stay tuned for an official announcement from the team within the coming days.
