The Sacramento Kings announced a partnership with Sacramento County to turn Golden 1 Center into a voting center for the upcoming November general election. The facility will be open from October 24th through November 3rd to allow people to register to vote and cast their ballots while still practicing social distancing.
The Kings are dedicated to using our platform to encourage civic participation and engagement, said Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis. We are proud to provide a location in the heart of downtown with increased accessibility and opportunity to socially distance while promoting the importance of voting.
The Kings will provide the arena at no cost to the County, and the team is also providing the Downtown West Garage as free parking for voters.
The Atlanta Hawks announced a similar move at the end of July.
This is a great way for the Kings to use their facilities to give back to the community. There’s nothing to criticize here, the Kings nailed it on this one. Bravo.
Um, isn’t California voting by mail this year?
Most people probably are, but there will be some who can’t or won’t for one reason or another
Yeah. This is a good gesture. It’s just interesting timing and I wonder about the actual impact it will have in this State and city in this election.
I suppose it provides in-person voters a larger space to vote to promote social distancing which is a really positive benefit.
I’d bet the biggest impact is it will consolidate where to pick up ballots for voter registration.
Which would be significant if voter turnout overwhelms as it did on the UCLA campus.
Yeah, I have an uncle who has such a strong preference for voting in person that I’m pretty sure he wants to vote in person no matter what.
We’ve always dropped off our ballots at our local library rather than mailing them in. Given the slow down in USPS services under the new Postmaster General, that’s probably an even better idea this November.
Giggity.
I don’t understand how the organization can be so in-tune when it comes to social and societal issues, and yet be so inept when it comes to basketball decisions.
Because they are mutually exclusive, that’s why. The same way the Spurs can be basketball management utopia and be owned by complete shitbags like Julianna Holt (thanks Ziller)

I wrote mutually exclusive but I meant to write mutually independent. The stats part of my brain must not be fully functional today.
The stats part of the brain is mutually independent of the non-stats part of the brain.
While I’m glad they put the ‘beef’ on a break, I didn’t exactly love the musical outcome:
Voting 3.0!

I wish the Kings were as good on the court as they are off the court.
2020 Voting made simple, nothing like a flow chart

Speaking of the effects of this virus, POOP!

Is the front office on the ballot? Asking for a friend.
I am Vlade, and I am your Kings manager.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords doesn’t seem like such a bad thing given our current nightmare.
