When the Sacramento Kings played the Dallas Mavericks earlier this month, it was De’Aaron Fox that helped them survive Luka Doncic’s fourth quarter explosion. Fox wasn’t available for their second meeting on Monday, but they still managed to come out on top 111-106 because of their hot start.

The Kings outscored the Mavericks 31-17 in the first quarter and led by 18 points during that run. The only other quarter the Mavericks lost was the fourth quarter and it was by just five points. It’s safe to assume Luke Walton was happy with the way his team came out of the locker room.

After the first quarter, the Kings looked a step slower, but at no point did they look like they were out of it and that had a lot to do with the energy that Richaun Holmes brought to the game. In 25 minutes, Holmes tallied a team-high 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. You couldn’t tell it was only his second game back.

Tyrese Haliburton also impressed as the Kings’ starting point guard once again, picking up his fourth double-double of the season.

Unfortunately, the win came with a loss in the form of an injury. In the third quarter, Harrison Barnes exited the game with what appeared to be a quad injury. Barnes ended the game with 19 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and 3-4 shooting from behind the arc. There has been no update on his status.

The Kings will play the Mavericks for the last time this season next week, but before then, they’ll have to play two tough opponents in the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers.
