Kings get their first look at Jimmy Butler in Orlando

Basketball is back. The Kings are back.

After a long, four-month hiatus, the Sacramento Kings will take the court for a scrimmage against the Miami Heat at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando on Wednesday.

The game hasn’t held meaning since it was announced, but it’s especially pointless now that we know Marvin Bagley III, Harrison Barnes, De’Aaron Fox, Richaun Holmes and Alex Len won’t be available. Barnes, Fox and Holmes are among the top five players on the roster in minutes per game, with Barnes leading the team with 34.9 minutes per game. Suffice to say, Luke Walton’s rotation — starting with his first five — will look different on Wednesday night.

Cory Joseph will likely start in Fox’s place on Wednesday, with Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kent Bazemore, Nemanja Bjelica and Harry Giles III rounding out the starting five. That five-man unit has played a total of eight minutes together this season, and posted a net rating of zero.

It’s also possible that Walton decides to start Buddy Hield in place of Bogdanovic in an effort to compensate for Joseph’s absence from the second unit. In any case, Yogi Ferrell will probably play meaningful minutes for the first time since December.

The Kings have played the Heat twice this season and the series is tied 1-1. In their last matchup, the Kings beat the Heat 105-97 behind a 23-point outing from Bogdan Bogdanovic. Ironically, Bagley, Holmes and Len were unavailable for that game too.

Jimmy Butler was also unavailable for that matchup, which marked the second game he missed against the Kings. In less complicated terms, the Kings will be getting their first look at Jimmy on Wednesday. If Butler really wanted to prove he was a winner, he would take what’s left of the Kings’ roster and play against the Heat.

It’s Orlando — anything is possible.

The game will be televised on NBCSports California at 5 p.m. PDT. Wednesday night’s matchup doesn’t mean anything for either team, so just try to have fun while watching it, and hope that someone on the team looks better than expected.
