The Sacramento Kings could have used a few more clutch baskets from Kyle Guy on Thursday. In their preseason finale against the Golden State Warriors, the Kings narrowly lost to the Warriors 113-109. The Kings will end the preseason with a 2-2 record.

If you can believe it, Steph Curry is still really good at basketball. In 28:58 minutes of action on Thursday, the two-time MVP racked up 29 points against the Kings. His percentage from the field (39.1%) wasn’t great, but he made six of his 13 3-point attempts and managed to end the game with a box plus-minus of +11. The Warriors might not be very good this season, but Curry will be.

On most nights, the Kings will be able to live with Curry scoring 20 points. What they can’t live with is Kelly Oubre Jr. and Andrew Wiggins combining for 41 points on 15-27 shooting from the field.

It’s just the preseason, but the Kings’ perimeter defense looks just as lackluster as it did last season outside of Glen Robinson III, who was productive on both ends of the floor on Thursday. When you consider the fact that they didn’t make much an effort to improve in that regard in the offseason, I guess that’s not some big surprise, but that doesn’t make it any less of a problem. It will be interesting to see how Walton and his coaching staff compensate for their shortcomings in that area going forward.

If there was one positive takeaway from Thursday night’s game, it was that Hassan Whiteisde looked servicable once again, contributing 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Whiteside might not start this season, but it’s clear he’s someone Walton’s going to look to to anchor their defense, for better or for worse.

Marvin Bagley III also looked a lot more comfortable in his second game back, at least offensively. Hopefully he’ll continue to show potential as a post scorer when his minutes increase in the regular season.

The Kings will have the next few days to go over tape before opening their regular season against the Denver Nuggets on Dec. 23.
