Kings survive monstrous fourth quarter from Luka Doncic

The Mavericks made it interesting, but the Kings ultimately went wire-to-wire.

At long last, the Sacramento Kings snapped their nine-game losing streak with a 121-107 win against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. Prior to Sunday night, the Kings hadn’t won a game since March 29.

Even though the final score was lopsided, it doesn’t reflect how dominant the Kings were for most of the game. The Mavericks never led and the Kings’ largest lead was 21 points. The Kings also outscored the Mavericks in the paint 56-42.

But as dominant the Kings were, the Mavericks gave them a run for their money in the fourth quarter — or should I say, Luka Doncic gave them a run in the fourth quarter. Doncic, who the Kings passed on in the 2018 NBA Draft, scored 22 of the Mavericks’ points in the fourth quarter. He went into fourth quarter with just 15 points.

Fortunately for the Kings, their star showed up too. De’Aaron Fox recorded another double-double on Sunday, scoring 30 points and 12 assists. Harrison Barnes also had a great game against his former team, tallying 24 points, his most since April 2.

The Kings are still 5.5 games back of a play-in spot even with a win on Sunday, but at least they avoided setting their longest losing streak since 1998. They’ll be back it to take on the Minnesota Timberwovles on Tuesday.
