According to several reports, the Kings have signed free agent Deonte Burton. Yannis Koutroupis was first to report the news and several other reporters have also confirmed.
Burton played 4 years at the University of Nevada and went undrafted in June. He averaged 20.8 points on 47.1% shooting from the field in his senior year, along with 4.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals.
It is unclear at this point if this is an actual signing or merely a summer contract for a training camp invite. The training camp invite seems more likely. Sacramento's roster is currently at 15 as they have not yet waived Jeremy Tyler or Wayne Ellington. Burton played 6 games for the Washington Wizards during Summer League and did not play well, averaging just 1.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 16.7 minutes a game over 6 games, all while shooting a paltry 15.8% from the field. Yes, 15.8%. That's not a typo.
The Kings could use a third Point Guard in the rotation, as right now the only players they have at the position are Darren Collison and Ray McCallum. It's possible that Burton could be that guy.
