The Sacramento Kings’ “In This Together” effort has been active in the local community ever since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

The organization donated prepared and perishable food to the Sacramento Food Bank and Sacramento County Office of Education from the Golden 1 Center after games were canceled. Multiple players (including Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes, De’Aaron Fox, and Bogdan Bogdanovic) supported local restaurants by purchasing 1,000 meals to then donate to regional non-profits. The old Sleep Train Arena was converted into a field hospital.

Now, Yogi Ferrell is joining in the philanthropy by donating meals and ice cream to the Sacramento Children’s Home. Like the previous donations made by Kings players, Ferrell is commissioning the meals from local restaurants El Novillero, Happy Takeout, Pangaea Bier Café and Roma’s Pizzeria and also partnering with Häagen-Dazs for the ice cream.

The individual servings of ice cream are a particularly nice touch by Ferrell. So many of my childhood memories center around going to the park and then getting something from the ice cream truck or a scoop from the local drug store. The treat of having a nice cold ice cream during the summer is really special for young children, and it’s nice of Ferrell to make that specific inclusion for vulnerable youth at this time.

Credit to the entire Sacramento organization, staff and players, for doing what they can to help the community survive and feel some sense of normalcy right now.
