For the second time this season, De’Aaron Fox is the Western Conference player of the week. The Kings went 4-0 over the past seven days, just as they did during the first week of February when Fox nabbed his first such honor. This is the first time since DeMarcus Cousins in the 2015-16 season that a Sacramento player has earned the nod twice.

The Kings point guard averaged 36.8 points, which led the league, while shooting 64.0 percent from the field and 37.5 percent on threes. Fox also chipped in 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in his 37.5 minutes per game.

Fox was especially absurd down the stretch of these recent games, putting up 11.0 points per fourth quarter while making 8-of-9 free throws. For the week, he shot 82.8 percent from the foul line, a huge jump considering his struggles there this season.

There is one moment that especially stands out from Fox’s performances this week, even though he was uniformly excellent, and it has to be the inbounds pass he made to Harrison Barnes for the game winner against Cleveland Saturday. Fox downplayed the effort, reminding everyone that he was a quarterback before committing to basketball full-time, but it was a remarkable assist, saving the Kings from what would have been a heartbreaking defeat.

The other nominees for player of the week in the West were Nikola Jokić, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, and Zion Williamson. The Jazz were undefeated, but Fox’s volume and efficiency outpaced that of the Mitchell.
