Metu was previously on a two-way contract.

Chimezie Metu’s journey with the Sacramento Kings has finally reached a happy conclusion. On Wednesday, the Kings announced that they used their final roster spot to convert Metu’s two-way contract to a multi-year contract.

“Chimezie has worked hard this season and done a terrific job to earn his place on the team,” Kings general manager Monte McNair said in the press release. “He provides toughness and energy to the group. We are happy to watch his career develop in a Kings uniform.”

Metu technically signed with the Kings during the free agency period in November, but he was waived before the regular season started in December. Upon clearing waivers, the Kings brought Metu back on a two-way contract, and that’s been his designation up until Wednesday.

Metu missed the most of the first half of the regular season with a significant wrist injury, but in the games since he’s been back, he’s looked impressive. In the last 10 games, Metu has averaged 6.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. For the season, he’s averaging 5.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

The terms of the deal of the weren’t disclosed but, similar to Damian Jones, who made his signing with the Kings official on Wednesday, the deal is likely non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed for the 2021-22 season. The Kings’ roster is at 16 players, one below the NBA maximum, and they have room to sign one more two-way player.
