Royal Reading: Should the Kings re-sign Kent Bazemore?

New general manager Monte McNair will have to make a decision on the 31-year-old veteran.

New Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair has plenty of tough decisions ahead of him as he tries to help turn the franchise around. We should learn more details about McNair’s plan when he meets with the media on Wednesday.

One of the players McNair will have to decide on is veteran guard Kent Bazemore. The 31-year-old was traded to Sacramento in the Trevor Ariza deal back in January. Bazemore played in 25 games for the Kings and averaged 10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 38.4% from the 3-point line.

Bazemore made $19.3 million this past season, which will be a little too much for Sacramento considering Buddy Hield’s new deal kicks in, and Bogdan Bogdanovic is an RFA. Bazemore told reporters that he wouldn’t mind returning after the Kings’ season wrapped up in Orlando.

His +1.3 net rating was the best out of any Sacramento player who suited up for more than 25 games. The eight-year veteran is a good fit next to future All-Star De’Aaron Fox. Bazemore doesn’t need the rock in his hands to be effective on the offensive, which is ideal playing with the ball-dominant Fox.

Bazemore’s made 2-point baskets came off of assists 57.0% of the time, while 96.4% of his made 3-pointers came off dimes. He also made 34.2% of his corner threes, per Basketball Reference.

It will be interesting to see how McNair proceeds with building the roster. The Kings have a glut of wings with Bazemore, Hield, Harrison Barnes and potentially Bogdanovic on the roster next season, so something will have to give.

If Sacramento gets a decent trade proposal for Hield, it’s easy to see the team moving on from him. Hield isn’t happy with how he is being used in head coach Luke Walton’s system, so if McNair pulls the trigger on a deal involving Hield, it makes the case to bring Bazemore back stronger.

Do you think the Kings should look to bring Bazemore back?
