Richaun Holmes in quarantine after ‘accidentally’ leaving NBA bubble to pick up food

Holmes is in the second day of a 10-day quarantine.

Over the last week, there has been a lot of talk about the quality of food inside the NBA bubble at the Walt Disney World resort — some players think it’s fine, others would rather eat food from outside the bubble. Richaun Holmes was one of the first players to push back against the idea that the food was bad, saying he has “zero complaints,” but apparently even he wanted to expand his horizons over the weekend, and now he’s paying a price that’s steeper than whatever delivery fee he was charged.

In a statement released on Monday, Holmes said that he “briefly and accidentally” left the NBA bubble to pick-up a food deliver and is in the second day of an NBA-mandated 10-day quarantine as a result.

Anyone who’s ever tried to have food delivered to a hotel can probably empathize with Holmes. It’s hard enough for drivers to find the hotel lobby — imagine them trying to deliver food in a place that’s supposed to be secure. Holmes was hungry, and he was forced to make a business decision.

If Holmes began his quarantine on Saturday, he missed the Kings’ first full-contact practice on Sunday. It also means that he got sick of the food at the Disney’s Yacht Club Resort after just one day, which is objectively hilarious.

Assuming Holmes is medically cleared to resume basketball activities in eight days, he’ll be available for the Kings’ first scrimmage against the LA Clippers on July 22. However, given how adamant Luke Walton has been about his players practicing before they play, and how long it’s been since Holmes has played an NBA game, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Holmes on the floor for that contest.

Holmes has averaged 12.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and a steal per game this season.

Update: Richaun’s mom was not pleased that her son broke the bubble for that caliber of food.
