The Kings officially confirmed the hiring of Monte McNair as their new head of basketball operations Thursday, as was reported yesterday by The Athletic. McNair’s title will be General Manager, and he will report directly to Sacramento chairman Vivek Ranadive.
In the team’s press release, Ranadive extolled McNair’s prior front-office experience with the Rockets.
Although McNair will be the lead decision-maker, the Kings are still keeping interim GM Joe Dumars on board as the chief strategy offer. Per the team, that means Dumars will “help drive strategy across the organization’s entire portfolio of activities, including business, basketball, new ventures, entertainment and real estate”.
Assistant GM Ken Catanella is expected to remain in his position, one that he has held since 2016, per reporting from The Athletic, and the Kings will presumably look for more individuals to fill out the rest of their front office. McNair will be involved in all of those staffing decisions.
From there, the new front office will have to make a decision regarding the team’s no. 12 draft pick as well as Sacramento’s free agents, which include Bogdan Bogdanovic, Harry Giles, Kent Bazemore, Alex Len, and Corey Brewer.
