Another shoe has dropped for the Sacramento Kings, as Marvin Bagley will not play for the remainder of the NBA season.
Bagley injured his right foot during practice Sunday, and the team was waiting on the results of an MRI earlier today when Bagley was seen in practice in a boot and crutches. The MRI revealed a lateral right foot sprain, per a release from the Kings, meaning that Bagley will miss the entirety of the NBA restart:
Because Bagley’s injury is not related to the coronavirus, Sacramento cannot sign a replacement player. However, if Bagley is sent home to rehab this injury, it is possible that the Kings could bring another staff member to Orlando as part of their traveling party.
Bagley wasn’t a part of the team’s rotation before the hiatus due to separate injuries to his thumb and left foot, but the league suspension had given him time to recuperate from both of those injuries, and head coach Luke Walton said that Bagley had been “flying” down the court in practice. It’s a shame that another fluke injury has derailed Bagley’s sophomore season, particularly at a time when the Kings are fighting for a playoff spot.
