From 1998-2004, Chris Webber helped lead the Sacramento Kings to the most successful run in franchise history. The Kings made the playoffs in each of C-Webb’s six seasons with the team, making the Western Conference Finals in 2002.

After former teammate Vlade Divac stepped down as Sacramento’s vice president of basketball operations and general manager after five years, Webber is looking forward to what the future holds for the Kings.

Webber is now an analyst with TNT and is in the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida. He told The Athletic’s Jason Jones that he’s excited to see what Divac’s replacement — Joe Dumars — can do to turn the franchise around. Webber admitted to being a big fan of the team and being frustrated with how things have gone over the past 14 years.

One current Sacramento player Webber is excited about is point guard De’Aaron Fox, who has shown he has all the tools to be an NBA All-Star in the coming years.

Fox put up 21.1 points and 6.8 assists per game this season, and will only continue to get better as he develops his game. He will need to improve his outside shooting to fulfill his potential after shooting just 29.3% from deep this past season. Another aspect of his game he needs to work on is his defense. While Sacramento scored 3.1 more points per 100 possessions with Fox on the court, the Kings gave up eight fewer points per 100 possessions with Fox on the bench.

Still, his presence on the roster is a huge benefit for Dumars. Fox is the prototypical leader in today’s NBA. His quickness is second-to-none, and his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands translates well to the run-and-gun style the league has adopted. Dumars will have to be creative to fill out the roster around him. It looks like Buddy Hield’s days with the team could be numbered, especially with head coach Luke Walton slated to return for his second season, so Dumars could use Hield to acquire a wing player that complements Fox’s game.
