The Kings will pick 12th in the 2020 NBA Draft

No movement for Sacramento.

It’s official: Sacramento will have the 12th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The last time the team selected at no. 12 was in 2008, when the Kings picked Jason Thompson. Thompson ended up spending seven years in Sacramento, and is eighth in franchise history in games played at 541.

The Kings entered the draft lottery with the 12th-best odds of earning the number one pick and a 6.1% chance of jumping into the top four, per Tankathon. Their most likely outcome (86.1%) was keeping the 12th pick, which is what ended up happening.

Here is a list of who has been selected no. 12 over the past decade. All but one of the players is still active in the NBA, and two are currently participating in the playoffs.

2019 PJ Washington, Kentucky – Charlotte Hornets
2018 Miles Bridges, Michigan State University – Charlotte Hornets
2017 Luke Kennard, Duke – Detroit Pistons
2016 Taurean Prince, Baylor – Utah Jazz
2015 Trey Lyles, Kentucky – Utah Jazz
2014 Dario Saric, Croatia – Orlando Magic
2013 Steven Adams, Pittsburgh – Oklahoma City Thunder
2012 Jeremy Lamb, Connecticut – Houston Rockets
2011 Alec Burks, Colorado – Utah Jazz
2010 Xavier Henry, Kansas – Memphis Grizzlies

Here is who some of the different media outlets have the Kings taking with the 12th pick in their early mock drafts:

SB Nation: F Isaac Okoro, Auburn

Draft Kings Nation: G Josh Green, Arizona

ESPN: F Saddiq Bey, Villanova

NBA Draft.Net: PF Precious Achiuwa, Memphis

Okoro and Bey would be great fits in Sacramento given the team’s defensive struggles. They are both solid two-way players who can contribute on the offensive end while being a force defensively. The Kings struggled with their perimeter defense throughout the season, so landing one of Okoro or Bey will pay immediate dividends.

We still have a long way to go until the Oct. 16 draft, but who would you like to see the Kings select at no. 12?
