Vinsanity is officially coming to Sacramento. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the 40 year old veteran is signing with the Kings on a one year deal for $8 million.
Obviously, this news isn’t as big as it would have been ten or even five years ago, but for the Kings it’s perfect. Carter, despite his prominence as the oldest player in the NBA (for reference, Kings rookie Harry Giles was two months old when Carter was drafted) is still a productive player, averaging 8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 37.8% from three in 24.6 minutes a game for the Grizzlies last year.
Carter will be yet another quality veteran mentor for the Kings youth, a player that many of these young guys feasibly look to as a living legend. Carter has morphed from a superstar to a roleplayer, has dealt with injuries and bounced back and has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.
The one year deal also lets the Kings maintain flexibility, and search for a longer term option at Small Forward in the near future. The signing also puts the Kings at 15 guaranteed contracts, if they sign second round pick Frank Mason III as expected.
Welcome to Sacramento, Vince! Also, sorry Frank Mason III but you’re probably going to have to choose a new number now.
