NBA Draft: Kings select Frank Mason with the 34th pick

A second round fan favorite comes to Sacramento

With the 34th pick in the NBA draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Frank Mason III, Kansas’ starting point guard. The former Jayhawk impressed both Kings management and their fans in his time spent in Sacramento for workouts and will hopefully develop into a solid option off of the bench.

He was a great scorer in college and could knock down the long-ball with ease, shooting 47% from distance on almost 5 attempts per game. He’s a solid passer in the half-court and works hard on defense, despite his usual size disadvantage.

Similar to De’Aaron Fox, Justin Jackson, and Harry Giles, Mason is also known as a hard worker and for his leadership skills. He was probably the largest vocal presence on Kansas this past year and his bulldog-approach to each game will be valuable in the league.

Personally, I would have taken Semi Ojeleye or Jawun Evans over Frank Mason III, but he represents a solid option as a backup guard for De’Aaron Fox. Clearly, the Kings went after high character guys tonight and they got a good one in Frank Mason.
