Marvin Bagley III won’t need surgery on fractured hand

Bagley’s season may not be over after all.

On Monday, when the Sacramento Kings played the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center, Marvin Bagley III suffered a fracture of the fourth metacarpal in his left hand. While initial fears were that Bagley would have to undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the season, the team provided an encouraging update on Bagley’s rehabilitation process on Thursday:

In a normal season, four weeks would be bad news for Bagley because the regular season typically ends in April. However, because the season started in December, the Kings will play well through the middle of May regardless of whether or not they make the postseason.

Granted, those dozen or so games likely won’t tell us anything we don’t already know about Bagley, but it could give Luke Walton and the Kings an opportunity to see how Bagley fits in a starting lineup featuring De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton, the latter of whom replaced Bagley in the starting lineup. Fox, Haliburton and Bagley have only started one game together this season.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
