The first big signing of the Monte McNair era is, well, big. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Sacramento Kings are signing Hassan Whiteside to a one-year contract.

Whiteside, a 31-year-old center from North Carolina, was drafted by the Kings in with the No. 33 overall pick in 2010. In his two seasons in Sacramento, Whitside appeared in just 19 games. Following Whiteside’s sophomore season, the Kings waived him.

Whiteside played overseas for two years before returning to the NBA in 2014 and breaking out with the Miami Heat. In his comeback season with the Heat Whitside averaged 11.8 points, 10 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. The following season, Whiteside averaged 14.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and league-leading 3.7 blocks per game. The Heat rewarded Whiteside’s production with a four-year, $98 million contract in the summer of 2016.

Whiteside led the league in blocks per game again last season, and he averaged 15.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, but he won’t be getting a eight figure contract with the Kings. According to Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee, Whiteside’s contract is for the veteran’s minimum.
