Golden 1 Center address to be named after former NBA Commissioner David Stern

Each day we get closer and closer to the opening of the Golden 1 Center, a building that was decades in the making. Frankly, it still doesn’t seem real, and I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

The Kings sent out a press release this morning announcing that they applied for an address change for the street leading up to the arena to rename it in honor of former NBA commissioner David Stern. Should the address be approved by the City Council, Golden 1 Center will officially be located at 500 David J. Stern Walk.

From the Kings’ press release:

There’s no downplaying the significant impact David Stern had on this city keeping its team. Despite an extremely aggressive offer by a group in Seattle and multiple attempts by the Maloof family to move the team, Stern staunchly stood by his stance that as long as an arena solution could be found in Sacramento, the best course of action was to keep the team here. Despite a lot of twists and turns, that’s exactly what happened.

Per the Sacramento Bee, Stern will be in town for both the unveiling of the new address on September 30th and during the arena’s home opener in October.
