Our long national nightmare is over.

The Sacramento Kings are expected to finalize a deal with Buddy Hield before today’s 3 PM PT deadline, according to Carmichael Dave.

Dave is connected enough to be excited about this report, but we’ll of course continue to watch and see if this gets confirmed by other reporters. We will continue to update this post as we learn more specifics, but this is big news for Kings fans. If nothing else it will be nice to not have this issue hanging over the season.

Buddy Hield started all 82 games for the Kings last season, finishing with 20.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 42.7% from 3.

Update: Both Sam Amick of The Athletic and Adrian Wojnawroski are confirmed that deal has been agreed to. The deal has a base value of $86 million over four years, with what Woj describes as “exceedingly reachable bonuses” to get to $94 million, and more lofty targets that would max the value at $106 million.

In a huge win for the Kings, the deal includes a decreasing base salary year over year. The Kings did a similar structure with Harrison Barnes’ deal, making it easier for the team to handle future extensions for De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley III.

This seems like a win for all parties, and it’s great news for Kings fans that Buddy Hield will be a King for a long time.
