Sacramento Kings agree to deal with Yogi Ferrell

The Kings did a thing!

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to a two-year deal worth $6.2 million with free agent point guard Yogi Ferrell, according to Yahoo’s Shams Charania. Ferrell had agreed to a deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks as of Thursday evening, but backed out of that deal early this morning. The Kings were mentioned as an early contender for his services.

Ferrell is a 6’ point guard who Dallas also used as a shooting guard at times last season. He’s 25 years old, barely older than Frank Mason III, who he’ll compete with for backup point guard minutes. De’Aaron Fox should remain the starter.

Although the Kings have a guard-heavy roster, this bolsters the team’s point guard position. After Mason struggled in Summer League, many felt that the Kings could use an upgrade at point guard. Having three point guards also provides injury protection should any of the three miss significant time.

For the price, I think this is a really good signing. Ferrell is a solid backup and this is a low risk move.
