Ty Lawson needs to explain himself to Kings officials

The Kings guard was late for shootaraound and missed the team flight to Kentucky

Ty Lawson hasn’t exactly had a great year off the court. But after an offseason telling everyone that his issues were behind him, he’s had a positive training camp and preseason, earning rave reviews from Dave Joerger. But the good vibes may have come too soon, as Lawson is reportedly having issues staying focused in the past few days.

From ESPN’s Marc Stein:

With Darren Collison already slated to miss eight games due to suspension to start the season, the Kings were counting on Lawson to man the PG spot. But now with this uncertainty hanging over how much Lawson has actually overcome his well-documented problems, the team might be forced to look elsewhere.James Ham has reported in his podcast that Lawson’s leash would be very short, and he would be gone at any sign of trouble. This might just qualify.

Jordan Farmar has had a solid preseason, and if the Kings are so inclined, he may just end up getting that 15th spot on the roster over Lawson. It is an undeniable talent downgrade, but the Kings really can’t afford any distractions in the locker room. Their margin of error is too small. Lawson will have a chance to explain himself, but he better make a damn good case. His career is hanging in the balance.
