After suggestions that the NBA wanted to restrict the Olympic basketball tournament to players 23 and younger made their way around the world in advance of London, the president of FIBA now says that the rule won't be in place for the 2016 Games in Rio. That means that DeMarcus Cousins and John Salmons will be eligible for inclusion in 2016.
Cousins was a near-miss for the 2012 Games: he was considered the best big man on the Select team that scrimmaged against Team USA before London, and there was minor talk that if Anthony Davis couldn't travel with the team due to injury after Blake Griffin went down, then Cousins would join them.
Salmons has not previously been considered for Team USA duty, but you never know.
Tyreke Evans has previously played with the Select team as well, but the guard lineup is brutally deep: it appears that the national program may need to choose between Deron Williams and Kyrie Irving in 2016. Guh.
